Side sleeper?

my little girl is 5 days old and every time we put her down to sleep we swaddle her and put her on her back, but then she rolls to her side. I'm ok with this but my DH is worried it's not good for her so he will reposition her and it sometimes wakes her up. Does anyone have any opinions on if it's safe for a baby to roll to her side or should I put her back on her back?

Re: Side sleeper?

  • My boy is 11 days old and he flips over on his side too. He did it while at this pediatrician appointment and the Dr. said side sleeping is considered safe as well. It was really freaking me out before the appointment too!

I was just telling my husband that our baby girl prefers side sleeping! She just looks so peaceful! Glad to know its not to uncommon

Our daughter does this too. We asked her pediatrictian and she said that back or side is fine as long as she's not sleeping on her tummy.

Our daughter does this too, except if she's swaddled we can usually get her to stay on her back. If not, she's on her side. Our pediatrician recommend two rolled up wash cloths placed at her hips to keep her in position on her back. We tried it one night and she still was able to roll to her side. She moves around so much and repositions herself so much in the bassinet that I felt the washcloths could be a suffocation hazard. So we just swaddle at night.
  • A nurse told me that if you put LO on his/her back, and they rolled to the side it was fine!
  • My dd did this. I was so afraid she would roll on her stomach and suffocate. The doctor said to put a rolled up receiving blanket next to her to keep her from rolling but that scared me too much. I just kept putting her back on her back and she eventually stopped rolling. I did skip the bassinet bc I was too worried about her rolling against the side. We went straight to the pnp in our room.
