Teeth and dentists

Happy Saturday, mommas

Not so happy Saturday for my tooth. This is gonna be a little gross, so if your squismish, turn away. Lol.. okay, so I've been having gum bleeding on one molar, all the way in the back, and it's a tooth with a crown on it. This morning, (this is where it gets gross...I almost puked...) I poked it because it's a little swollen, and a little bit of puss came out. I have an appt. with my dentist on the 8th, but I'm worried that too far away. I'm starting to get headaches, and I believe it's from my toothache.. Anyone else dealing with an infected tooth? What did your dentist do? Most antibiotics are live culture, and aren't safe for baby, right? *waaahhhh* I hate the dentist more than I hate the thought of tearing during childbirth!! :(( any help is much appreciated.

Re: Teeth and dentists

  • Sorry to hear your suffering Hun. Tooth ache is one of the worst pains ever! I too am terrified of the dentist and feel like I should get a sticker like my son does when he goes, just for me going lol.

Some AB's are safe to take whilst pregnant. I've had 3 uti's and given 'safe' AB's.

Could you bring your appt. forward at all? A week with toothache can seem like an eternity. Plus the fact you have pus coming out of it, that needs looking at as soon as.

I've had to have a filling & been suffering with swollen gums after I eat. Horrible and painful.

Good luck, hope you feel better soon.
    Keep us posted Hun x

  • Such a bummer!! Tooth issues are the worst! My hubby is a husband and he said definitely get in sooner. That sounds like there is active infection and needs to be taken care of. There are some antibiotics that are ok to take right now. Good Luck with everything!!
  • Thanks ladies! I'm thinking of leaving work early and just walking in to my dds office (we've known him since I got my first tooth) and having him write me a RX right then.. it's just *shudders* so gross.. blehh! ^#(^
  • I would go in right away and not wait until the 8th. I'm guessing that tooth will get pretty painful if it's not already, and with your immune system down and out you are much more susceptible to infections. Plus all that bacteria can get into your blood stream and wreak havoc on the rest of you, possibly even baby.
  • I'm just waiting for my GM to come into the office so I can tell him I'm leaving. It does already hurt, and definitely infected. Called my dds and said to be in by 1. Ughhh. Toothaches! :-SS

Call to see if you can get in sooner. I'd explain being pregnant and being in pain. They'll prioritize and should have "emergency" spots for situations like this.

When I had a dental emergency last year I actually went to the local dental college. It cost less and they were able to help me.

  • If tooth is infected you will want to get debridement and root canal treatment done as an antibiotic will help only for a short time. Call your office and explain your pain and situation...at the practice I work at they work people in all the time, esp with those symptoms. Good luck, and just know root canals are not like they used to be and won't be as bad as you think.
  • Yay for penicillin! Dr. prescribed it, I picked it up, and started taking it (after consulting my OB) I go back on the 8th to determine what's really going on. He said the tooth might be cracked under my crown, and that's what's causing the infection. Thank you ladies. I'm already feeling better knowing I have something fighting the infection. :)>-
  • My only advice is to make sure you brush up/down into the gums and also floss even though it will bleed then use mouthwash...I had a crown that was infected and the antibiotic didn't get it all cleared, had to do that routine 3 times a day :-<
