Shortened cervix at 30 weeks

FTM currently 30 weeks pregnant. They told me at the doctors yesterday that my cervix is shortened even though I've had no signs of preterm labor. I was not dilated and my cervix was not open. However, baby's head is very far down already. My OB put me on Progesterone? until 34 weeks to prevent labor and modified bedrest. I can still work my office job but nothing else. Basically I could have DD anytime after 34 weeks and she would be fine. Any other mom's experience this? If it was a previous child, how long before you delivered? I'm just curious about this whole thing.

Re: Shortened cervix at 30 weeks

  • I was put on bed rest and progesterone suppositories my last pregnancy at 28 weeks due to pre term labour and a short funnelling cervix. I made it to 39 weeks on the dot. Don't freak yourself out, just be cautious and aware of your body and you and baby should be just fine :) GL. Oh and...TMI alert...go buy a bunch of panty liners as the progesterone sups will create a huge mess down there.

  • I had this problem with both my other pregnancies. I ended up getting induced at 39 weeks with both. It didn't really translate to early labors in my case.
  • FTM mom here, too. I've been on progesterone suppositories since week 22, currently I'm 29 weeks, and on modified bed rest. My doctor asked me to use them until week 37. It's a pain, but the longer baby is in the belly the better for her health and growth. Don't worry too much about it. At first I was so worried and stressed but every week that went by made me more comfortable. Luck!
  • Do they check your cervix at 30 weeks with no signs of preterm labor?
  • I've had a shortened cervix since 21 weeks, been on progesterone since 16 weeks and am now 28 weeks and they said my cervix has not bettered or worsened so I'm on bed rest and still doing shots and taking medicine to help the contractions. I had my second at 34 weeks. I was terrified when they told me I was having problems at 21 weeks this time, but am feeling a lot more confident now. Good luck.
  • I too have had a shortened cervix since 23 weeks. I have been on modified bed rest and have had closer appointments and more frequent ultrasounds. For me, so far so good! This doesn't seem to be uncommon at all. I wish you, and all the other ladies with this a healthy full term baby :)
Always hold on to hope ❤

I had a regular ultrasound and afterwards they gave me a transvaginal ultrasound to look at my cervix. This was normal and from what I know, done for everyone. Because the transvaginal ultrasound showed that baby was way far head down, my doctor did an exam that showed my cervix had been shortened.
