I have a 9 week old DD , recently she has started to suck on her fingers and fists after she finishes nursing , I offer her my breast in case she might still be hungry but she rejects it and cries. :-S
My 9 week old has been a thumb sucker pretty much from birth, but this is around the time when babies discover that sucking is soothing and when they can maneuver their hands to their mouths. It was always difficult to pick up her feeding cues because she was always sucking on her hands! But this sucking is perfectly normal and great news for you: better sleeping for baby and shorter nursing times because baby can soothe him or herself without nursing.
My 10 week old is always sucking on his fists. I thought maybe it meant he was still hungry at first, but I agree with PP, they are learning that they can bring their hands to their mouths. I find that sucking on his fists keeps him content when he'd otherwise be fussing to be picked up/held.
My 11 week old has been doing the same thing for a few weeks now. It's a good thing, they are learning to soothe themselves. She won't even take a soother now.
My 9 week old does lots of fist sucking. I get that he's learning to soothe himself, but lately at night when he wakes up or goes through a period of light sleep, he spits his pacifier out and frantically starts sucking on his WRIST loud enough to wake us up. It's both annoying and adorable. Aaah, children.
My LO does the same thing I was concerned but then realized its in baby's nature to want to suck even at this time when like every one else is saying finding there hands
My son does this too. Dr actually showed me that my 3 month old is teething! Lol so either self soothing or teething I'd say. Apparently 3 months isn't too early
