Going over my registry..

so now that my invitations for my baby shower are in the process of being printed, I decided to go over my registries to make sure everything is up to par and taking things off and adding things , this will be the first grand baby for both my family and SO family, MIL already went crazy and bought a crib, pack n play, bouncer ,swing, stroller combo set and walker (So that's a lot I don't need to put on) and a few blankets and outfits...but my question is I only want the major everyday things we need on my registry nothing unnecessary , should I include clothing also? And should I keep diapers on my registry even though we are doing a diaper raffle and sending raffle tickets with the invitations?? What things should I keep off the registry or definitely keep on? I have 2 should I make both as identical as possible? Because I know most people won't look or go to both stores..

Re: Going over my registry..

  • I would leave clothing off other than perhaps undershirts.  People love to pick that stuff out and don't need encouragement.  I'm going to ignore the part about diaper raffles because I think that's in poor taste.  I will say that putting your preferred brand of diapers on a registry is a good idea, so people know what you are looking for.

Honestly I would treat the registry as a shopping list for you.  Put on there everything you still need to buy and people can use it or not.
  • Loading the player...
  • If youre brand specific about diapers, definitepy put that on there. I think diaper raffles are fine but keep clothes off, youll get clothes whether you ask for it or not. Basically, if you need it and havent bought it then put it on the list.
  • Clothing goes out of stock all the time so it's pretty useless to add. Make sure you have on some smaller items for people who can't spend a fortune. And don't forget the "sick" items like Nose Frida and a rectal thermometer. The every day items add up too, like bubble bath and shampoo and lotion. Baby aquaphor will always be needed. I also would not add diapers, because people will give you giftcards and you can use them toward that if you need to.
  • Keep diapers on both registries, 1-2 boxes of each size. Other than that I would not put the same things on both registries, you could get duplicates! Try to have a price range mix on both, and adjust them as items are purchased. I had 3 registries with my first kid (Amazon, Target, BRU) and only one person even bought something from BRU (a Snow White dress).

Don't register for clothes unless there is a particularly cute or useful item that you really want and would be a nice gift....Like a snowsuit if you have cold winters, a costume for Halloween or particularly meaningful shirt.

Stuff that can go on both registries would be consumables and multiples, like bottles and sippy cups, Desitin, Baby shampoo, silicone bibs, etc.
  • I would put all of the basics. Even OTC infant meds! I wouldn't put clothes just bc people are going to buy whatever they see as they're going through the baby section. I know my grandmother has bought enough clothes in all sizes for the first year just bc she couldn't resist the cute stuff!
  • Of course I have a price range just about everything on my registry is affordable and I definitely do have doubles of stuff so they have options in prices.

I am in the same situation since invites are going out this week. I was wondering if the smaller items like bibs, pacifiers, etc are worth putting on the registry? Or is that just something to get with gift cards after? I have on my registry diapers, wipes, playmat, bottles, nose frida, humidifier, shampoo/lotion baskets, first aid kit, bath tub and the bouncer.. anything else?

Anything you plan to buy for baby in the first year of life is fair game for the registry, so I would definitely put bibs and pacis.  Small things are nice for people to throw in a gift basket or something.  Plus it makes it easier for you when you go to make your final purchases after the shower.

Filters for the humidifier. You go through them quickly and they are kind of annoyingly pricey.

I registered at two places (BRU and Amazon) and I put different things on both. I'd hate for two guests to buy identical items because I think that would make them feel bad. As for clothes, we did a few basics, like swaddles and sleep sacks and few white onesies. I only put one pack of diapers in a preferred brand. I figured if they wanted to buy diapers, at least they'd know the brand.

Baby Will born 8/18. He's perfect.
  • Pacifiers are pretty unnecessary. We were gifted almost a dozen of them and four or five paci holders and clips, but LO quit taking a pacifier within a couple of weeks, we didn't make it past two pacifiers. I ended up giving the rest away.

I've already had two showers. I've learned that people buy what they want too. They don't even look at your registry. Sigh..... Now I'm returning things and trying to get credit. Sorry, that didn't answer your question at all.

How many bottles? Not just for the registry but in general, I don't want to start a whole new thread for that.
  • @ptelfra I have bottle sets on mine but I do know the more bottles the better...
  • I'm a ftm I didn't put clothing on mine. However I did put everything in the world on there ha if the store had it I put it down. Even if we may not need it. At the time my thinking was let's give people options. Now I'm thinking I'm going to have so much stuff and no where to put it all. I'm thinking I'll get some duplicates so I can just go and trade it in for something else.
  • No clothing, no diapers since you don't know which brand will work best for your LO and may end up stuck with a ton of Huggies you can't use or something. Bottles are the same, register for small packages of different brands since babies are picky about those as well. We have a huge set of Avent Wide Flow that DS hates many used three times before we bought all new ones.

I like to put snippy cups on there since you'll need them before a year and those add up.
  • I wouldn't put any clothes or blankets. You will get a ton of that stuff
