Fifth disease question

Hello Mamas,

My husband and I are both teachers. Very early in my pregnancy I had a student who was being treated for a possible fifth disease outbreak(they were not sure). I called my doc, took the blood test and the results were negative.

Today the nurse at my husbands school called him to tell him that a student at his school had a confirmed case of fifths disease. This student was also on an overnight field trip my husband chaperoned last week.

Right now my plan is too call the doc Monday and ask if the negative from my last test was a negative for exposure or if it stated that I was immune. However, my husband is freaking out. He doesn't want me to come near him. I know the risks are very low, but different websites dont agree on how low that is. However, he's so stressed I'm wondering if I'm underreacting. Should I be calling the on call doctor? I would feel terrible if I wasn't worried and then something bad happened. Does anyone have any experience or expertise?

Re: Fifth disease question

  • I should also mention my husband has had cold symptoms all week.

  • I'm a preschool teacher and we have gaff privacy 5 or 8 kids in my room or the room next door that have had it since I've been pregnant. I freaked out initially. Doctor was not at all concerned. I never got it. Baby is fine. I'm not really concerned about it anymore.
