Protein in urine

so my dr found protein in my urine and I'm freaking out out about preeclampsia. My blood pressure is good. I have a lil swelling. Anyone have protein in urine and not have preeclampsia? I go back to dr next week to be checked again.

Re: Protein in urine

  • I had protein in my urine yesterday. I also had blood in my urine. I have had high BP since I was 18 but with DD I only got high BP the last few weeks, without pre e. My midwife said that I had protein bc I had blood in my urine, I've had blood in my urine 3 times now and this is the only time I've had protein so idk if I agree completely but it's better than being diagnosed with pre e!! Best of luck

I had protein in my urine at my last appt but it was an early morning appt and I didn't have much water in my system yet. I had a bowl of cereal before so they just said it was too much sugar and not enough water. They weren't concerned because my bp is fine and I have no swelling. Just drink lots and lots of water!
  • I've always had protein in my urine at every sample tested. They've never mentioned pre e to me. My BP is fine though. I'm sure everything's just fine don't panic x
  • With DD1 I had HBP and protein in my urine (3+ dip, 1500 mg in the 24-hour collection; shouldn't be over 300) from 32 weeks on. Other than monitoring my protein weekly and inducing at 40 weeks (protein jumped 1000 mg to over 2600) it didn't cause any complications. With my current pregnancy the same issues developed at 25 weeks. I've already done 2 24-hour collections, the first was 1314 mg and the second just over 400 mg. The doctors and nurses were shocked at the sharp drop but I've been following the renal diet which is supposed to help with proteinuria so hopefully I can maintain some control over my protein until this LO is ready (BP is handled through medication). Also, my blood work was perfect during all of my labs (kidney/liver enzymes, platelet count) so my OB was okay treating these as 2 separate issues as opposed to diagnosing me with pre-e. Anyway, protein can indicate pre-e or it could just be protein. If you're really concerned try reading up on the renal diet, it's supposed to help with the protein output and help with BP.

  • Some people just spill some protein. In the absence of other issues I wouldn't worry. Had severe pre e last time. Spilled trace protein last appt but everything looks great

  • My last pregnancy I had trace protein at almost every pee test from 24 weeks on (along with higher bp and some ankle swelling). I had to do a couple 24 hours urine collections, which they may have you do. It didn't get "bad" until 38 weeks when they finally diagnosed me with pre-e. They might run a blood panel to check your levels of they suspect it is pre-e.
