Still hasn't sunk in

So we had our first prenatal visit today ( 11wks) and also did our first US. Baby looks great! Stong heartbeat and everything. Weird thing is, even with my bad MS and bloating and even seeing our LO today, I still can't believe we are finally going to be parents. Anyone else still having trouble with it sinking in?

Re: Still hasn't sunk in

  • I'm totally with you. I am 13.5 weeks (they changed my due date and I should be in the November board now but I am already used to this board so I'm staying :) ) and am still having a really hard time wrapping my head around it all. Sometimes I don't even like talking about it with other people because it feels so private and people just want to pry and ask and talk about it. I don't think it has sunk in for me either.

  • I am still in slight shock. Since we tried for a while, nothing happened and then ibwas told i was menapausal and pregnancy would not be likely. Wow. It hit me hard lol very happy i am pregnant and so far this one is sticking, but still in some disbelief thinking no way. Becausr looking back at last year, at me and bfs messages back and forth about my opks being pos but hpts were neg and how bummed we were...it's just weird lol
  • Yes! We had our first Doppler today (11 weeks 6 days) and after hearing the heartbeat I cried tears of relief. But I'm still having a hard time believing there is really a baby in there! I think I've been dreaming/praying about this for so long it's hard to believe it's real. But it is!
  • I don't remember when it sunk in with me that I was actually pregnant and going to be a mom (with DD). It was not right away, for sure, or even after we got the first ultrasound at 8 weeks. I think it starts to sink in a little more when you start to really feel kicks and rolls - not first flutters that you don't know if it's baby or your lunch - and when you can see the baby moving around in your tummy. That's pretty cool.

  • Mine still hasn't set in that I'll have a baby in my arms at the end of this year... I'm 13w... But definitely has sunken in I'm pregnant after my last ultrasound (so many features you can see on its little face) and seeing my belly get bigger!

I've wanted to be a mom for pretty much as long as I can remember. I wasn't so sure about ever wanting to be a wife and was pretty sure I was just going to have a child on my own. Until I met my husband. Now I have more than I could have ever dreamed of and we are pregnant with our first. We have had two ultrasounds and everything is great. But it all still feels super surreal 90% of the time. Haha I'm sure it will sink in eventually or maybe I'll just spend the rest of my life asking myself if this is really my life. :)

Yes! With DD I was in such disbelief for so long...it didn't seem real until like @redfallon said you start feeling kicks! Then I remember thinking oh yea I really am pregnant and going to be a MOM! Crazy, fun roller coaster!!!

This is baby #2 and it was a complete surprise so it's definitely still sinking in for me!

By "can't believe" do you mean "freaking out" .... because I am haha

I've always wanted to be a mom and never knew anyone who had anything go wrong during pregnancy. so my last pregnancy i was just stunned when it didn't work out. this one i feel like i just can't believe it's real until after my nuchal and 14 weeks...then i'll believe i'm going to have a baby in my arms this year. so i guess it's a different kind of "still hasn't sunk in"
  • I'm the same way! We saw our ultrasound and i'm like... "there's no way that thing is inside me!" hahaha! little heart beating and everything, it's so hard to believe that there's something living in there!
  • Thanks everyone! Now I feel better that it's not just me feeling this way. I guess part of the stress too was not knowing till 11wks if we had a baby or not. Symptoms are one thing, but you get so paranoid when you can't see it. Hopefully when I feel the first kicks it will really sink in. :)
  • I'm 12 weeks and still can't believe. It's surreal. I see a bump and haven't had a period in over 3 months so I know it's different but it's still crazy to think there's someone growing inside me. Maybe once I feel the baby kick it will be more real or maybe it won't hit until I see the baby. After so long ttc and being told it's impossible it's still like a dream.

I'm also 12 weeks. I don't see a bump yet, but the period is what gets me. I'll catch myself thinking, shouldn't my period come soon? Then I remember that nope, I'm growing a baby and my uterus won't be punishing me this month!
  • I still can't believe it. SO has to remind me most days, belly is growing I'm almost 14 weeks because they changed my due date I also should be in November, but I want to stay here. I go between freaking out and not knowing it's real and completely ready to cry because I've wanted it so long and didn't think it was going to ever be possible. Add to that the joys of SO and me just being so "new" in the relationship. My poor mom found out my brother was getting married (he did it 2 weeks after he told her) and I was pregnant in the same week... She is like wait what all my kids are grown and starting new lives... Noooo
  • I thought it would sink in after the first US but it still hasn't. DH has given me reality checks several times already! Maybe it will hit me when I finally get to see my family and friends next month (:
  • 9w and 3 days here and it's already sunk in for me. I've had to turn many things in my life upside down to help fit this LO into the fold. I also just came back from a 3 day work conference surrounded by free booze and couldn't partake. Yeah I'm feeling pregnant lol.

  • For me I definitely think about it constantly, like there's a baby in there and I need to take care of myself, and I check for bleeding everytime I go to the bathroom and I've seen the baby on ultrasound three times so I know it's there, so the pregnancy has definitely sunk in, but the fact that I'm going to be a mom I don't think will sink in until I'm holding that baby in the middle of the night trying to breastfeed. I've been babysitting or nannying since I was 11 years old and still babysit on occasion so even then it might not even sink it. But all I know is I love this baby more than anything and when it sinks in and I finally realize that thus baby is mine I know I'm going to cry my eyes out from happiness. I keep waiting for it at every ultrasound.
  • Hasn't sunk in for me at 10w yet. We literally got pregnant on our first try so the fact that it was so easy has helped make it more surreal. I take care of myself and all that but I keep asking DH "do we know what we've gotten ourselves into?"

Exactly my situation! I was only off the pill for 1 month.

Me too! I was on the pill for 10 years and I was only off it for a couple of weeks. Still doesn't feel real.

I was on it for many years too and I wanted to stop when I turned 31. A lot of my friends had trouble conceiving so I thought it would take a year or 2. My 3 month pack ran out a month before my birthday. I had 1 period and then they stopped. When I tested negative at home but still had no period I called the nurse. She told me "I'm sure you're not pregnant, you just got off the pill and you're probably just really late. Wait a week, take another test and call back." 11 weeks later here I am!!
  • @Capricornbaby4 have you had an US yet??
  • Right there with you! I am 13w5d and it still hasn't sunk in! Probably bc I don't have much of a bump yet, and I'm still just worried every day about a miscarriage, etc. I've seen the baby 4 times already but still have trouble staying positive!!
  • Even after seeing LO moving on the U.S. it's still so hard to connect the dots and make it real that there is actually a baby growing inside! We lost a baby in December and I never thought I would be here 6 months later. I'm 10w2d and had my 3rd U.S. Friday and still can't believe it! It did get a little easier when we announced it. I guess it'll just take time!

@rmarie13 Yes, I've had three already and have heard baby's heartbeat twice! My DH was able to record it on his phone so I can listen whenever I want. Even after all that it still doesn't seem real yet. :x

@capricornbaby4 @rmarie13 DH says that when you've been on the pill for a long time and you get off your body is like woah look what i can do let's ovulate and oftentimes it goes into overdrive. so apparently it's even easier to get pregnant with multiples the month or two after you stop taking the pill. it's a common misconception that it will take months or years to get pregnant bc you were taking the pill.

@rmarie13 totally jealous you got to record the heartbeat! how awesome is tha!!?

@CMDD never thought about it that way! Ha, that's funny. Now I'm picturing "Stuart" from MAD TV going..."look what I can do!!" :P
  • So ready or not, my DH is actually visiting his family and made the first set of announcements. It was kind of nice to have it as our little secret, but they are super excited for us. Can't wait for next time when I can visit too. :)
  • Hahaha Stuart!! I may have to watch some old clips of that now (:
I have my 12 week scan next week but I've already had 2. I have to keep watching the video DH made to remind myself. Every time I see it I'm like "OmG I'm pregnant!!" :D@CMDD it's nice to have the videos but DH nearly knocked over my Dr recording them LOL
