clear blue weeks predictor

So I am about 6 weeks according to my last period. I took one of those week predictor test and it only said 2-3 which means I am only 4-5 weeks. Did anyone else take this and have it be off?

It's possible that you just ovulated later.  I wouldn't worry about it.  Those tests work by detecting the hcg in your urine, so there are a lot of things that could have thrown it off.

  • I heard the clear blue weeks predictor doesn't go off your last period, but how long ago you ovulated.
So you might be 6 weeks. You might be only 4-5.
  • May 11 my clear blue predictor read 2-3 weeks and I am 6 weeks 4 days today according to ultrasound and measuring crown rump length yesterday

I was doing a lot of reading about this topic and from what I found is that that HCG shows up faster in your blood than in your urine. So you could be close to six weeks and the HCG just isn't showing up in your urine at the levels it should yet, but with a blood draw it would. Also, I read that these tests are not really reliable, you can't with 100% accuracy tell how far along you are unless you have a dating ultrasound. I wouldn't put too much stock into the test and worry yourself too much.  :) There is the potential as well that you just ovulated a little later than you think.
  • Don't read in to this. I had a similar experience. Decided to use up old tests and had two of them. I got a 2-3 weeks and then later got the 3+ weeks. At first I was nervous. But after reading up about it the literature shows they aren't as reliable as you may think. Don't fret.

This is just a guess, but I always assumed it was more of a gestational age predictor.  When we calculate how far along we are using our last period date, obviously the first two weeks or so we aren't pregnant.

My Clearblue test gave me a result of "2 - 3 3+" when I took the test, which was spot on based on the time I ovulated.  I have been taking my BBT every morning for months, so I know exactly when I ovulated.  I have 34-day cycles on average and only an 8-day luteal phase (I've read you'll likely miscarry if your luteal phase is too short - not true).  Thank goodness I know when I ovulated; if I calculated by EDD based on the start of my last period, it would have me as being 7 weeks pregnant (I know I am definitely only 5 weeks)!

Although everyone on here has already conceived, I can't tell you all how relieved I am that I started paying attention to my BBT and my CM months ago.  I quickly discovered how late I ovulate.  Thanks to knowing this info, DH and I conceived on our first try, and it was all thanks to knowing my cycle and knowing when to act (egg-white CM... sorry if that's TMI!)

All that to say, I agree with others - you probably just ovulated late.  Although I haven't yet gone in for an ultrasound, I understand your OB will have a much better idea of when you're due once he/she can measure your peanut.

  • @laschub That's really wonderful you conceived immediately, I just don't want other women to be disappointed that even with all of the stars aligning it doesn't happen their first cycle ttc. Normal healthy couples who time everything right can still take up to one year to conceive.

DH and I took 3 cycles, another friend took a year, and my SIL got her BFP on cycle 1.
  • Clear Blue is my favorite brand, I wouldn't buy any other test. I got my first BFP on a digital CB test and I started grinning ear to ear. My last period was Mar 6, and I did not get a positive until late April. It said I was 2-3 weeks, which would have put me 5 weeks, and when I went to the doctor a week later, they tried telling me I was 8 weeks, ignoring my comments on irregular cycles. So when I did my first ultrasound, they were worried I measured 2 weeks small (and I quickly told her I had a hunch I ovulated late). They are pretty accurate in my opinion, but every women is different. I believe it measures the weeks based on the amount of hcg in your system, but I cannot say for sure.
  • I actually swear by them (even though I know I shouldn't). They've been so utterly spot on my last 2 pregnancies it's uncanny. So when I was benched in march/April and wasn't tracking my ovulation I had no idea I ovulated a full 2wks late. They helped me prepare for my first ultrasound and I was able to tell my doc and the tech I assumed I was 5wks instead of 7. I was accurate :)

That being said. There could be a lot of reasons you didn't get the 3+. Diluted urine, late ovulation, late implantation..... I would just wait until the ultrasound and be aware your dates may be a tad bit off.

  • Yes, mine was the same way. I think the weeks predictor only predicts from ovulation. So if it says 2-3 then your probably 4-5. It's because doctors actually count you from the first day of your last period. So it is basically like we get two weeks free...lol! Hope this helps!
