how much weight has everyone gained so far? I'm 8 weeks today n already gained 10 lbs! I'm so worried. My boobs have grown a cup size but I don't want to go over 30 lbs this pregnancy.
I'm 7 weeks 2 days and up 1 pound. The other day I was down two pounds though, so I have no idea what's going on. As PPs have said, everyone and every pregnancy is so different. At this time with DS, I had already gained 8 lbs, so you never know what kind of hand you're going to be dealt.
I'm up a couple pounds (I think mostly in my boobs!). I wouldn't worry too much about the number on the scale, as long as you are eating okay and getting a little exercise. First trimester is hard. With my first I gained 10 lbs first tri because I had to snack constantly to keep from puking, and then went on to only gain 30lbs the whole pregnancy. I feel like whoever said you should only gain 1-3 lbs first tri was definitely a man who never dealt with morning sickness or swollen boobs.
I think the reason you aren't supposed to gain much in the first trimester is because your baby is the size of a blueberry. A blueberry does not weigh 10 pounds. Any gained weight is just fat and does not support baby's health.
Of course, as long as you truly are being healthy, I'm sure it isn't a problem. I bet your doctor could give better information than we could.

I'm 5 weeks today! Haven't gained any weight yet. Counting calories and on a healthy diet. Hoping not to gain any weight for the first trimester but looking forward to eating a little more calories the 2nd and third trimesters tho!

You do know that the weight of the baby is not the only weight you gain while pregnant, right? No, a blueberry does not weigh 10 lbs, but a newborn also doesn't weight 25-35 lbs. I said in my post that if you are eating okay and exercising, you should be fine. If you are obese to begin with, then no, you don't want to gain 10 lbs first tri if you can help it. But when I did with my first pregnancy, my doctor wasn't concerned, as I explained my need to snack constantly and I was a healthy weight to begin with. It was either snack constantly, or throw up and become dehydrated. So in that sense, it actually was healthier for my baby that I gained weight.
@winebaby122 - I do know that weight gain does not come only from the baby. However, the extras do not come until MUCH later. The 1-3 pounds accounts for more than enough of the changes that are occurring in your body during the first trimester. At the same time, this number obviously varies for the individual.
Remember, when you post on a pregnancy forum, people will respond - not all will agree. If you do the research, you will yield the same results. Whether or not you feel judged, I'm only trying to correct any misunderstandings that people may come to after reading your post that whoever came up with a weight gain rule must have been a male. I promise you, a lot more went into it than that.

I'm familiar with how TB works- I've been around since 2011. I was simply trying to ease OP's worries by sharing my experience and making a joke regarding the 1-3 lbs rule. Telling her that her weight gain is all fat and not healthy for her baby is so not helpful.
@winebaby122 - Agree to disagree! Whether or not you think it's helpful, it's the truth. I can't imagine we will be in conversation again, but if we are, I don't like things sugar coated. I'd also expect that when people ask questions, they, too, are looking for answers.
Slightly increased blood volume and water weight is normal for sure. Your digestive system slows down ( thus the gas and bloat) so you body can hold on to as much nutrients as it can (that = extra stored fat like it or not) The more bad stuff u eat the more your body will store. My doc I work for tells patients 1-8 pounds in the first trimester is normal . Sometimes tho I've heard him tell underweight girls he wants them to gain more. Giving into cravings and eating crappy foods tho will increase the weight gain so just do your best not to buy crap food and you won't eat it it's a struggle at times for sure especially if the diet was poor prior to that positive test .

I'm 8 w 4 d and i'm up 3.5 pounds. I'm pretty upset with myeslf because I've been eating like crap. I'm am trying to change my diet to make sure I have a nice salad for lunch during the workweek. If it slows down the weight gain, great, if not, at least I know I'm getting some good stuff in for the babe.

It's hard !!!! Way harder than I thought it would be actually. All we can do is try our best
I'm 7wks 1 day and up about 7 lbs but I know some of that has to be water and bloat because you don't just go up 5 lbs overnight without any significant change in eating habits. Yes, I'm eating a little more than I was, because I'm more hungry than I was. I think our bodies all react differently. For me, I have immediately gained a lot in water and bloat in the 1st trimester and it evens out through the 2nd and 3rd. There's no reason to shame anyone for gaining a little weight in the 1st trimester.
@Anna.acb - no one should feel shamed! I'm just stating the recommended weight gain. As someone who reads this forum, I want people to post the truth. All everyone can do is their best. As for water and bloat, I feel it too. I think if you weigh yourself again tomorrow, you'll see that it fluctuates - the difference should be your true weight gain.
8w 6d today and my weight has fluctuated between losing 10, and gaining 10 lbs to bring me back to my start weight(yes 10!!). Super crazy. But so far no official weight gain from my start weight. There's some days when I'm sick as a dog and can only nibble on crackers, and then days like Memorial Day when I ate everything in sight. Then again some of it could be from being backed up

Sorry, my bloat doesn't come and go. I weigh myself enough to know fluctuations. You are making assumptions about my body and how it reacts to pregnancy. They are guidelines for a reason. I know my body and I know my eating habits haven't changed enough for me to have gained 7 lbs over the last 3 wks. I'm happy for you that your body is the way it is and you haven't gained a lot of weight, and I hope you stay lucky throughout your pregnancy, but your statements have come across as judgmental. Everyone is different and you shouldn't be making assumptions on other women's weight gain.

Anna, I truly apologize. I guess I didn't mean to say that your body specifically would fluctuate. Usually, water weight fluctuates. I truly apologize for offending you. I will not assume that your water weight fluctuates in the future. I'm confused, and truly sorry to have hurt your feelings.
Please also be mindful that this is a forum. If you don't want people to respond to your post (even sympathetically as I did), don't post. And - I have broken no guidelines. Read them.

Why is everyone so sensitive?!?!
When did I say you broke a guideline? We're having a conversation. Again you're making assumptions that I don't want you responding to my post. I think your statements have been judgmental and I let you know. I appreciate your apology. Weight gain is a very sensitive topic for many women, and while you can post whatever opinion you want, if your intention is not to offend, as you've stated, you might want to tone them down a little.
Things can totally get misinterpreted on here. Plus yall have some raging hormones right now so read before u post and don't take things so hard. It's a forum ... That being said this is very tame compared to others
As far as not trying to offend anyone, the only thing I mentioned on this thread came straight from the research. I'm not stating my opinion, I'm just reiterating what other professionals have said in answer to her question. This is a forum, so you can take it for what it's worth. If the Mayoclinic's studies showing that 1-3 pounds is recommended for healthy baby development offends you, disregard that comment. If it offends you that extra weight gain this early on is likely fat, disregard that, too. We all make our own decisions - but my weighing in should not personally offend you. Weight gain is a sensitive subject, but I believe people ask questions because they want truthful answers. I was just passing along information that I read.

You're a trooper!! I'm sure that can't be easy. My weight fluctuates a couple pounds, and I feel completely out of sorts. Seriously, my hat's off to you.

The weird things is I don't even notice! Some days I feel less "bloated" and those are the days I weigh less. But other than that I feel the same. And shockingly enough, I haven't puked yet this whole pregnancy. The weight loss just strictly comes from food as versions and gagging when I smell it lol. But I started off overweight, so I'm TERRIFIED to gain anything over 25 lbs. I'm scared I won't be able to lose it after baby comes.
@babybluu I totally know how you feel. I gained 50 lbs with DS, and remember crying to my husband one night that I would never know what it feels like to be myself again (definitely a low point in my pregnancy). That being said, it took a while but eventually the weight did come off. I had to be really disciplined about working out and my diet, but I was able to whittle away at it a little at a time and then one glorious day, my jeans fit! I lost the last few pounds as soon as DS started walking. Go figure!
@mimers07 I was running a lot before my BFP, (now I'm too sick lol) and I'm actually looking forward to running with my LO after I get the all clear from the doc. I actually can't even imagine what it would be like to feel normal again lol. It's gotta feel heavenly. So I can't wait for that! But I think another reason I'm scared to gain wait is the fact that I have such a higher chance of getting gestational diabetes. And I don't want to put my baby in danger, or deliver a huge baby lol. I'm already on metformin for insulin levels/pcos so I think I'm more high risk of getting it. Once I feel better I plan on working out and eating healthier!
