Women losing ability to give birth naturally, and breastfeed?

Re: Women losing ability to give birth naturally, and breastfeed?

  • Interesting viewpoint, thanks for sharing. I sure hope this isn't the case. I'm planning to go as natural as possible, but of course, will do whatever necessary for baby's health and wellbeing.

  • I'm not a doctor or anything so I don't know the ins and outs medically but I don't agree with this viewpoint. I think that more woman then ever are trying to go natural and avoid interventions and that a lot of drs are going the same route. Plus I believe our bodies will always be able to do what they were designed to.
  • Thank you for sharing the article!

I do agree and believe that drugs can interfer with producing the natural hormones needed to birth properly, especially oxytocin. That being said, drugs during the birth process is an individual choice that should not be judged.

I think he is crazy though for suggesting that men not be present during labor! Yes, if my man was incapable of handling birth and was more of a wreck than I am during labor, I wouldn't want him around. He'd only be a stressful distraction! My hubs wants to be involved in the birth process, which leaves us both feeling excited to experience it together.

I'm laughing over the line where he recommends the midwives sit in the corner knitting to help the mother to be relax. I don't know about anyone else, but the clickety-clack of knitting needles would definitely not help me to relax!

I agree with PP about having dads in the room, as long as he can handle it. My husband has been there for all 3 of my previous births, and it was so nice to have someone who not only knows me really well, but loves me and cares for me with me during that process. He was a very steadying influence, and I think it's important to have that when possible. I think it's possible the doctor may have been thinking of when mothers and sisters provided that kind of support to a mom to be, and may not realize how many women are not comfortable having their mom with them during labour these days.

Definitely an interesting article with a lot to think about. :)

  • Omg my husband was the only one I had to have by My side during labor! With all 3 he was right there and partially delivered my first. I love my mother but I was the girl who wanted her hubby! Everyone else in the room could stay in the corner :)
I think it all depends on where you get your info when it comes to this article. From research I found midwives with home births and birthing centers are slowly back on the rise and medical interventions on a very slow decline. C sections are a different story though, they are higher than ever.

And I agree, really knitting in the corner! I would throw something at my midwife!
