Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

2rd day post Surgery (TMI involved)

I had surgical management of a miscarriage Wednesday, which I think it's called a d&c in other places, was told will bleed 1-2 weeks after op
(went for 12 week scan was told had missed miscarriage, baby had no heart beat and had stopped growing at 10 1/2 weeks)

First few hours after surgery (under a general aesthetic) I went to the bathroom and bleed a lot straight away, after I got home was a little crampy and And every time I went to the toilet I was bleeding a lot, like dripping out of me. Second day woke up expecting overnight pad to be soaked from having it on all night and it wasn't at all, then after having another pad on for an hour in the morning barely anything just minimal spotting. But then the cramps got worse and moving started to hurt.

Today spotting is the maximum of what you could call I've had, But I feel as though my insides are jumbled up, my lower abdomen is so sore, bending down hurts, walking hurts. I've never had period cramps (which is what I should feel like after the op) but is the bleeding stopping good at this stage? Bad? Is the pain im feeling a sign I should call doctor? It's really hurts, more than I expect what a period cramp would feel like
Any advice greatly appreciated x

When I had a d&c a long time ago I didnt get enough rest nor did I drink lots of fluids. The doctor notified me that I'd bleed a lot for 3 days but I didnt. My body didnt let out all the blood so when I visited the doc several days later, he scraped it out. The most painful experience I had.

But I've read other ppl's experiences that they didn't bleed a lot. It's really a case by case thing so I think you should speak to your doctor about it.

So sorry for your loss and pains. Keep your tummy warm and eat all the good foods while resting.

  • I only spotted after my d&c but 3 days after it, I had 2 hours of intense cramps which felt just like the contractions I had when I had DD. I passed several clots in that 2 hours then the pain subsided and i spotted until it tapered off into a dark brown spotting then went away the day I got EWCM prior to ovulation which was exactly 2 weeks after my procedure. Every body is different, but I would call and ask about that much pain. Especially with the weekend coming up, you don't want to end up in ER if you can prevent it.
  • I only spotted the first 2 days. Barely enough for a liner, minimal pain. 3rd day I had horrendous cramps/contractions of the uterus and had very heavy bleeding for a few days to a week after that. Then spotting/medium flow for several more days.
  • I would go ahead and call your doctor.  I had a lot of abdominal pain about 2 days after both my D&Cs.  It did not feel like period cramps and was actually much worse - more like a burning sensation almost.  But it went away in 12-24 hours both times.  Still, I think it's worthwhile to call your doctor if you feel like the pain is really intense or unmanageable. They might be willing to give you some paid meds. I'm sorry you're having to go through this :(

  • I had a great deal of pain for the first couple weeks post-D&C. I even went to the doc because the pain killers weren't helping as much as I'd hoped. I was told I was overdoing it and to "stop it". I was told no cleaning of any kind and to stay off my feet. As much as I hated not being able to do what I wanted to it really did help with the pain. HTH. Sorry for your loss (((HUGS)))

  • I had very little bleeding after my d&c it lasted less than a week. The cramping however was pretty intense at times and the pain meds they prescribed didn't really help. My dr told me it was just my uterus contracting back to normal size but if it continues after 2 weeks that she wanted to check to make sure that there wasn't an infection... So sorry for your loss.
