Red raspberry leaf tea/pills?

Anyone taking this or heard of it? I've seen it mentioned a lot on other BMBs. It's supposed to help strengthen your uterus and make contractions more effective. If you are taking it, or took it with a previous pregnancy, did you do the tea or capsules and how much are you taking?

Re: Red raspberry leaf tea/pills?

  • I was taking a cup a day of tea from 20 weeks- (naturopath said to gradually increase from one cup upto say 5-6 a day by full term)
But I stopped because I had some pre-term labour symptoms (quite possibly unrelated to the raspberry leaf tea but I didn't want to risk it)

I know some other moms who swear it helped them have a relatively easy/fast labour- that's why I was giving it a go

  • I have used it in my previous pregnancies and I think it helped.  My labors have not been difficult and they average about 3 hours from start to finish.  I am currently drinking two cups (morning and night) of red raspberry leaf tea and once I get to 34 weeks I will probably bump that up to three times a day.

  • I haven't tried the tea but I think I will now that I've seen this. I did however use evenin primrose oil with my first and I really do think it helped! Starting at 36 weeks I took 2 pills a day and also before bed put one up by my cervix like where you would put a tampon and slept with it.

  • I drank the tea but I believe you shouldn't drink it until the last 4 weeks. It made my last and first labor progress very quickly and pretty much painlessly. I'm going to drink it this time but I'm going to wait until June to start.
  • I started drinking it at 29 weeks and will gradually drink more as the weeks go on.

I'm planning to drink this. I see great reviews on Amazon.
  • I have been recommended pure raspberry leaf tea by one Dr. but my midwife asked me not to start taking it until 34 weeks. In the mean time she suggested I use a blended raspberry leaf tea like third trimester tea which isn't as strong. From what she has said she has seen some big results from it including pre-term labor (if taking too much too soon). From what they have told me (as pp said) you start with 1-2 cups a day and gradually work up.
  • Question: I'm 33 weeks today- is it okay to start taking the raspberry leaf pills now and how many a day? Also, where did everyone find the tea? I went to GNC for the pills but they didn't have the tea, do they have the tea at the grocery store? Thanks!

@ssnyder016  The tea is hard to find... it is typically in specialty natural food stores and is pretty expensive (Whole Foods, Lassens, etc).  I found a bulk price on Amazon for 6 boxes of the tea that was wayyy cheaper.  Definitely worth it if you plan on drinking 2-4 cups a day for several weeks!
  • I found the tea at my local Target!
  • I took it during my first pregnancy and went overdue- induced at T+10 then took nearly 48 hours for my daughter to be born via ventouse (although I did have an epidural which increases the risk of operative delivery). Second time round thought I would give it another go anyway (why not, no harm except it's foul taste right?)... except I'm rubbish and basically forgot. Very quick labour (less than 6hrs from first period cramp) and baby out in like 3 pushes. So for me I reckon it's probably a load of nonsense and you ladies in U.S. get so little time off before baby comes I'd probably do something more fun with your time :) x
  • I bought the Traditional Medicinals Pregnancy Tea off of Amazon for a very reasonable price.  Its primary ingredient is raspberry leaves -- it's a mixed blend, so not as strong, but it's meant to have the same effect.  I'm trying to drink a quart a day (2 big mason jars full) and I began at 32 weeks.
  • Thanks @kmode13

Anyone take the pills? And how many a day?
