No ultrasound yet...anyone else?

So far I have only heard the heartbeat once (at my 11 week apt) and I won't be having an ultrasound until 17 weeks for the anatomy and gender scan. Anyone else feeling the itch to see the baby? I have a friend who went to a private ultrasound clinic that guarantees the gender at 14 weeks. She paid $80 and got lots of pics and a video of the baby. Anyone planning to do something similar??

Re: No ultrasound yet...anyone else?

  • I'm in the same boat! Heard the heartbeat yesterday at 12w3d and won't have an ultrasound until 18-20 weeks. So I'm having a non medical ultrasound done so I can get pictures, a dvd, see my bean, and have the gender determined for a gender reveal party! All before my doctor ultrasound. I'm impatient!

  • I'm 9 weeks today and haven't even heard the heartbeat :( I'm getting anxious!!!!
  • Lurker here! I heard the heartbeat today for the first time at 11 weeks 5 days. My first ultrasound is at 20 weeks........
  • I'm 10w5d today and haven't had anything yet. My only OB appointment so far was at 8 weeks and they just talked. My first US will be at my 12 week appointment. So impatient. I just want to know everything is okay.
  • I had an ultrasound but no doppler at my first appointment (9weeks). They weren't going to do one until my 2nd appointment but I was freaking out because I have had 3 m/c and have never been this far along before. My OB-GYN is super sweet and he was fine with doing a transvaginal ultrasound. Have you asked your physician if he will do this for you and stressed how important it is?
    Best of luck!

I guess because I'm not high-risk and I've never had a miscarriage or anything they don't feel the need to do it. I carried my DD to full term with no problems so maybe they are assuming this will be the same! Also, I asked about genetic testing and they felt that I didn't need to have any of them done and said they will be able to see everything they need from the anatomy ultrasound. Kinda makes me wonder!
  • I think it depends on your doctor/practice as well as your age and history. I carried my first full-term with no problems, have never had a miscarriage, etc. My old doctor (we've moved) didn't do an ultrasound until later in the pregnancy but my new one says she likes early ultrasounds for dating purposes. I'm fine with that! The more the merrier! Plus, their practice has in-house ultrasound techs so it's easy to schedule back to back with my doc appointments. With my old doctor, we went off-site to a different facility for ultrasounds.

I only have one ultrasound scheduled and it is at 20 weeks. I went in to an sonogram clinic (a very nice and respected one who specializes in 3D/4D ultrasounds in later pregnancy) at 10 weeks and a few days. I paid $25 and got pictures, hear the heart beat and see my little bean baby! It was cheaper because usually they don't see anyone until 18+ weeks as that is what they specialize in. They saw me early because I wanted my step son to see/hear the baby before he left for the summer to go to his mom's house.

They were amazing! I had a wonderful experience and will be going back to get a video and 3D/4D pictures later in my pregnancy.

The only thing I would say about these clinics is that they are not doctors, so they can't to any diagnostics or measurements or answer specific questions about size and what not. Just general answers. So just be aware, they aren't a medical staff that can answer all of your specific questions if you have some. And most only do abdominal ultrasounds, so if you are pretty early in your pregnancy, you may not see as much as you are hoping. (Just food for thought!)

I'd say go for it! I can't wait to go back! They offer more personal total experiences than that doctor's office anyways I think.

    Good luck!
  • My next one isn't until 25 weeks and my last was at exactly 9 weeks. Eek!
  • It depends on your doctor and history.
My doctor generally won't do an ultrasound until 18 weeks, however she will do an elective "dating ultrasound" around 10 weeks. Luckily my insurance covers the early ultrasound, but most don't unless there is a medical reason (previous losses, bleeding, etc)
Take it as a good thing - your doctor sees no issues and no cause!
  • I was offered US @ my 8w appt, but declined. My only US will be at 20-22w. DH and I have decided against going to US clinic and 3D (we think they are creepy-looking). We don't have overwhelming desire to see the baby...everyone is different.

Congratulations on being further along than before! Me too.. exciting and very nervy isn't it! I had an US at 7 weeks and have my next one 2 weeks today...wish me luck!
  • I'm 11 weeks along with my first one and have had 2 ultrasounds already. I'm not high risk, it's just how my OB does it. Had an internal one at 6w6d (at my first appt) and a regular one a week or so ago. My OB did it because 10weeks is too early for a doppler, it was so reassuring to see the little flicker of a heartbeat. Having the NT Scan on June 11th so I'll get to see the little peanut again :)
