Braxton hicks or movement?

Okay this might sound really stupid, but this is my first pregnancy and I will all of a sudden have a tightness in my lower abdomen, and it feels like somthing is pushing on the inside of my tummy, at first I thought it was the baby moving or rolling, but could it possibly be Braxton hicks I know it's kinda early though I'm just 17 weeks

Re: Braxton hicks or movement?

  • I personally didn't feel Braxton Hicks until around 20+ weeks with my first, but that isn't to say it is outside the realm of possibility given you are 17 weeks.  Very well could be.  BH does feel like tightening up and isn't the same sensation (at least for me) as the baby kicking.

  • Those are BHs.
Do you get it when doing a lot of activity? That's then I see them. I'm already getting them at 13 weeks this time. I don't remember when I got them with my daughter I would say 17 weeks could have been possible.

If my stomach keeps getting tight I put my feet up and drink water and they go away.
  • They woke me up this morning but normally it's when I'm being active I'll try resting when I get them and more water, thanks ladies :)
  • Make sure to call your doc if you haven't yet. I started having contractions at 23wks with my second. I was lucky and just needed meds and the lil shit held on until he was 40wks1d

I swear I had a Braxton hick today at work! I'm only 16 weeks 1 day so I didn't even think it was possible but my uterus tightened up for about 20 seconds and was uncomfortable! Apparently they can start as early as 16 weeks
  • I had Braxton Hicks contractions last week and they scared the hell out of me.  They were on and off for a few hours and were getting stronger.  I thought I was going into labor and losing the baby.  The doctor said just relax and drink more fluids.

  • Make sure you are drinking plenty of water, could definitely be BH.

  • From my experience braxton hicks feel more like period cramps. When baby moves, you'll know it. It's the sweetest thing ever. You will feel little flutters at first that will eventually turn into full on jabs and kicks :x
