Anyone used Flonase? I would think it would be okay since it just works in the nasal passage but any opinions/experience using it while pregnant? Using it at all for allergies?
My doctor told me it was not evaluated and not to take it because the risk couldn't be assessed. I'm DYING from allergies but not taking my eye drops or Flonase - not worth the risk for me. I can take Zyrtec which is helping a little.
My doc said it was okay- it really seems to vary. I'm already desperate bc I can't take Allegra d!
It may vary based on the severity of your symptoms. Trust your doc who has medical training and has had a chance to see you and examine you over us anonymous folks online.
My doctor wanted me to continue mine but it's more related to my asthma. He says he doesn't want anything causing a flare up and depriving baby of oxygen. So I guess they just weigh the pros and cons?
Nasal steroids are the recommended treatment for allegic rhinitis (nasal symptoms) during pregnancy. There is minimal systemic absorption (minimal drug is absorbed into the body). Doses for the nasal spray are much lower than the doses used in the oral/asthma medication. Both Zyrtec and Claritin have good safety data as well, but may not be as effective for nasal symptoms. I also recommend saline drops for some relief.
I am a pharmacist with terrible allergies and I use Flonase first at lowest effective dose (1 spray once a day), and I reserve Zyrtec for really bad days. I reviewed all of my meds prior to pregnancy and I have also reviewed this w/ my allergist.
Another thing to keep in mind- if you have severe untreated allergies, you are putting yourself at risk for a sinus infection.
