maternity photos

I planned on doing maternity photos but the closer it gets time to making an appointment to have them done I realize I don't really want them done. I would much rather just do newborn photos with me, my husband and my daughter. Anyone else not do maternity photos but regret it?

Re: maternity photos

  • Have you taken any photos? I might not do a shoot but I've taking progress pictures every few weeks and also pictures with DH. I'm going to try to get some nice pictures at the beach but not sure if I will just have DH do it. I want him in the pictures also though. Feel weird asking a friend to do it though. I think as long as you have some pictures of this time you won't regret not having a proper maternity shoot.

  • My sister is going to take a few for us just so we don't regret not getting them. She is pretty much forcing me... But, I love her for it!
  • If you can only afford one, I personally would do the newborn and family photos. With DS, we were lucky to find someone semi professional looking to build her portfolio that did both shoots for 100 each.

I had them done with my daughter at about 28 weeks.  We had my daughter's 1 year pics done right about the time we were ready to announce baby #2, so we took pics at baout 8 weeks with this kid.  There was no bump obivously, but I don't think I need those again.  I loved the expereince, but don't feel the need to replicate it.  We will take a few fmialy shots agian once this kiddo is born.

  • @egoodgame can I just say how envious I am at these pictures!! Ugh! You are like gorgeous and carry so nice!! Uber jealous!!
  • That's very sweet of you! She was just a really great photographer!!
  • FTM, I was able to find a photographer that wasn't too pricey so it fit in our budget.  For me, I figured I'd rather have it for memories and would be more likely to regret not getting them.  But of course if we couldn't find something we could afford, then I would have had to accept that.

I've seen lots of varying opinions/experiences about this.  Seems like it depends on your budget, priorities with the funds you have and maybe how sentimental you are.  If you don't get professional photos for whatever reason, as PPs have mentioned, I think its a very good idea to at least make sure you have some photos of yourself while pregnant.  That is something I've read before from people who realized after the fact that they didn't really have any photos of themselves while pregnant and wish they did.

I found a lady that I'm doing a package with, so it's maternity, newborn, 6 months and 1 year.

I see it as photos with DH and our 3 year old as well.

I've been given my sneak peak and the rest should be ready any day now. So excited !
  • I didn't for my first two and regret it...so for my thurd and this one I made sure I did.
  • This is my preview photo and I think it came out ok and the price wasn't too bad. I didn't get professional done with my first just had my hub take pictures and I'm glad we do have something but I wish I would've done professional the first time around as well. If you can find someone who is in your budget then I would consider it , oh and I would for sure recommend newborn pics . I had some pp depression with my first and so I did not look out together At All for the ones where i was in them and regretted it ever since so my advice is even if you feel awful make yourself up and get good pictures ! I am determined this time around to get good ones . Sorry for my long rant!
  • Sorry for any typos in my previous comment I'm on my phone!
  • I was a little skeptical about shelling out money for them but I'm really glad we did. Got them done at 31 weeks. Plus, it was just kind of one last photo session of the hubbs and I.
  • Getting my maternity photos done tomorrow (at 36 weeks)! DH and I have discussed it throughout the pregnancy and decided that it would be worth it. The photographer we are going with also did our wedding so she is cutting us a great deal. She will do maternity, newborn, 6 months, and smash cake 1st birthday and is allowing us to pay her in segments as we progress through our first year. We also get a fancy 10 X 10 leather bound book at the end. Super excited and hoping for good weather tomorrow night - rain, rain, go away!

  • I really wanted to- but then realized i kinda hate every picture of me pregnant right now... so I cancelled my appointment and let my husband use his camera on a tripod to just take a few of us so that we can show our little guy later that we were excited for him... Also- baby shower is an AMAZING time do have someone take some of you... cause you're already dressed up a bit and people are primed for pampering you :)

  • I am 39+1 and had my first and only picture take since getting pregnant today. I love all of your maternity pictures, but hate pictures of myself. I think I may have hubs at least take another picture of me in the nursery or something, but that's it.
  • Got ours back this week!
  • @Serenamarr love the one of the two of you!! So perfect.
  • I guess I'm in the minority here but I didn't take them with either pregnancy and don't regret it at all. With DS, we took weekly pics and did nothing with them, so we didn't even do that for LO. I hate the way I look and feel when pregnant and have no desire to be reminded of that. I don't like having my picture taken in general.

I do regret not having newborn pics with DS so we're going to do that with LO.

I had zero intentions of doing it because I'm whalish. Also would never in a million years pay for it. The best part of doing it myself is ultimate editorial power to shoot myself in flattering ways and photoshop my double chin away. No shame.
  • I took some with DH in front of my sister-in-law's cherry blossom tree while in full bloom 2 weeks ago. DH has taken a lot of me along the way but I realized we didn't have any together. We just had family take the photos for us and we got some really nice ones. I love cherry blossoms - couldn't go wrong with such a pretty background. We are going to have a formal newborn shoot - I can't wait!
  • I put my ghetto bathroom selfies in my pregnancy journal.
I was too lazy to wear the same dress/shirt each time I took a bump pic.
Some days I regret not trying harder and some I do not...... At least there is documentation right?!?! Lol
