Hypnobabies/Hypnobirthing Mamas!

I searched the thread & seems it's been awhile but just want to check in! How are yall feeling about our impending birthing days? Feeling confident? Lagging behind on your home study course?

As for me, I'm a Hypnobabies home study mom & feeling I could practice more of the finger drop technique. DH also has yet to go over his portion and at 37w 5d, I'm about to regulate! :)

Re: Hypnobabies/Hypnobirthing Mamas!

  • Haha, that's funny. I also need to get consistent with practicing the finger drop technique and the directed anesthesia. I'm doing the home study course and I'm really excited about using the Hypnobabies techniques. My husband is still not into the idea of hypnosis, but at this point I will do it by myself if I need to.

I've been doing well with it! I had been reading the Marie Mongan method book and when I was around 33 weeks (37w4d now) and I was getting a prenantal massage and wouldn't you know the masseuse just became licensed in hypnobirthing!!! Prior to this I tried locating an instructor or classes in my area and the closest one was 2 hours away. I'm pretty much her Guinna pig which is fine by me. She charged $25 for a private 2 hr session. Can't beat that haha. We started doing one-on-one classes that weekend and I have four under my belt already. I'm actually contemplating having her in the delivery room with us! She would sort of act like our doula/hypnotist. Best of both worlds.

I'm not sure how the two methods relate - hypnobirthing Marie Mongan style vs hypnobabies - but I imagine it's the same. The one thing i'm struggling with is the "J" breathing - or breathing the baby out instead of pushing. I'm hoping it will come to me when the time comes.
  • This will be my second time using the hypnobabies method. I'm not as diligent with my practice as I was the first time, but I'm still getting them in when I can. I did find labor to be not as daunting when I used the techniques so I'm excited to see how everything works out this time around. A lot of people say labor and birth is easier the second time around, so fingers crossed with that. I'm also going to go to a chiropractor the next five weeks to make sure my pelvis is aligned for an easier exit for baby. Whatever it takes!!
  • I'm a total idiot and bought the Mongan method book... But have been slacking on the exercises. Am focusing on the power of positive thinking which will likely not be sufficient. Thanks for checking in, though, it's a good kick in the butt

Were you able to go about your labor/delivery drug free? I'm a FTM and am so scared that I will get into my head too much and start panicking from the pain.
  • I'm 36 weeks & don't do the best at practicing either. Repeating week 2 but got to keep moving on. Need DH to practice more with me too! Anyone find they can't do the hypnosis right before bed? I feel like after relaxing so deeply I come out if it more awake & worried it's disturbing my sleep, like I can't fall asleep when I try to. Then again my sleep is already pretty disturbed.

@ciennah99 - Interesting you find it awakens you more. Some meditations I do (not related to hypnobirthing) do that to me but not these. I have yet to make it through most of them! I'm doing the Marie Mongan method which may differ from hypnobabies. Perhaps it's just the week you are on that's doing it? Did you find it happening in your Week 1 lessons?

I "fall asleep" a lot of times too. It's after that, like an hour or so that I feel more awake.

Thanks for the check in!  I'm in maintenance and have been kinda slacking.

Especially need to listen to the fear cleaning session, since I found out I'm strep B positive. My desire for natural birth probably had more to do with my fear of needles than being anti-med. It's going to be really hard for me to relax and get to my safe place, with a needle in my arm. So that's made me pretty nervous.

Getting excited! Reading the books and studying as well as listening to the birth breathing tracks on iTunes had me feeling like I'm really ready!!

Oh what breathing track can I find on iTunes?

  • I am so glad we are all checking in again! I am doing hypnobabies home study and am also feeling like I could practice the finger drop technique a bit more. I am super curious to see how labor goes for all you hypno-mamas! Best wishes to everyone in their studies :)
  • Nothing like hitting nearly 38 weeks and realizing that baby could technically be here at any moment. Glad this check in has helped some get back on track. We can do this!!

I've been super diligent the past couple of days. I also plan to find some birth affirmations online & print them out to have them ready to go! Either from Pinterest or this site,

My hypnobirthing instructor sent me this awesome link. The second video is amazing. The songs will make you cry and thank god the nurse lifts up the sheet b/c you have no clue the woman is delivering her baby!!

    We can do this mamas!
  • Thank you for sharing! So empowering to see all these mamas make it look to simple. I'm in tears over here! :((

I'm in the same boat. I'm 38w and just found out I'm group b strep positive (so disappointing). I'm practicing Hypnobirthing and am planning an intervention free birth but knowing I'm positive for this bacteria I'm torn as to wheather or not to get the IV of penicillin. Obviously I want what's best for my baby (hence the reason I'm torn).

Anyone have any good links with info on risks and benefits of declining the meds?

I talked to my midwife about the what ifs of being positive (just got tested on Tuesday) she said that they would put in a port (not sure of the correct terminology, maybe @klkonwi could help out here) and give the antibiotics every four hours, but by no means would you constantly be hooked up to an IV. You'd still be able to move around freely afterwards. Being given antibiotics IMO is not an intervention, it's the safest way to have a healthy baby in this situation. I wouldn't risk it.
  • @lovethatcolosun Just read about this- it's called a hep-lock. I agree that antibiotics are precautionary and I wouldn't consider them an intervention that might interfere with the birth experience- just a minor compromise to protect baby
  • Just wanted to encourage everyone with the hypnobirthing. I was doing hyponobabies home study but LO decided to come early & I hadn't even made it through all the lessons. We used what we could. DH said when I was listening to the tracks my contractions were more even & lower in intensity than when I wasn't. Keep in mind I have pretty severe medical anxiety & my labor was 31 hours. I listened to prob half of the pushing baby out track before I really started pushing & I think it helped her come out more smoothly, prob only 30 min of pushing & I told them when I needed to push. Nurse said I knew when they were coming before the machine so they took that monitor off & I pushed with them counting. I made it through 16 hrs without pain meds or epi with pitocin part of that time (didn't want but my water broke at 1 cm & I chose to trust my doctor). Did eventually have some pain meds & then epidural at hour 21. It was the right decision for me at the time. Be open with your plan, trust yourself, your body & your healthcare provider. Good luck ladies.
