I read that the FDA has warned against the use of spray sunscreen for kids. I think they are in the process of looking into the harmful effects. I'm needing recommendations on good sunscreen. It will be our first time in the sun and wanna make sure DS is protected!

Re: Sunscreen for baby

  • I don't have a specific recommendation, but we asked our pedi about this at her last check-up and she said to avoid spray sunscreen and to put lotion on her extremities but not her face.  Obviously they should be wearing a hat if they're outside :)  She said we didn't need to buy anything special for her, any lotion was okay.

  • Awesome! I went with the Aveeno Baby lotion. Hoping it does the job. I bought a long sleeve rash guard and swim trunks with UPF 50, plus shades and a hat. That should do the trick ;)
  • I ordered the Honest Company version along with their natural bug spray... living in the south, there are way too many mosquitoes in addition to the blazin' hot sun!
  • I know what ya mean @travisclaudia! I'm from Texas and they are terrible right now! Actually just noticed a bite on the back of LO's leg....so annoying!

My ped said nothing until 6 months. Hats and covered until then.
We use California Baby sunscreen when we can use it.

  • Hey there @jbird1222, I;m in Texas too! With all the rain we've gotten, standing water is everywhere, I fear it's going to be a bad skeeter season. Plus, my mold allergy is kicking my butt and poor DS keeps sneezing and sneezing...
  • I use water babies by coppertone. I love the smell! Pedi said when we start using it just make sure to do an allergy test at least a day or so before you put on on baby's we body. Put a small area quarter sized, on baby's back and check to make sure there is no reaction.
