Depends.. Just in case?

Hi June mamas!
Sort of a funny topic, but is anyone considering wearing depends in there final weeks in case their water breaks at work? I am terrified of this, but can't imagine wearing depends for the next 2-3 weeks. Thoughts? Anyone else have this fear?

I'm not working so my fear is slightly different, but I am worried about ruining my couch or bed if I should be lying there when it breaks! I do, however, feel depends would be uncomfortable?! I have no experience so it's just a guess but the seem bulky?

  • I bought depends for post-partum but hadn't thought about pre...hmmmmm....
  • I bought those bed protectors for the bed and to sit on on the couch. I did also buy those depend active sillouette underwear (they come in black and tan and not bulky, they are the ones lisa Rinna did the ads for). I haven't worn them yet. I'm 38+4, but will next week around my due date. My brother's wedding is next weekend (yes on my due date) and I'm in it, so I will be wearing them during the rehearsal and the wedding festivities.
  • I was JUST thinking about this! Thanks for asking, @kcrowley234
  • Yeah but, from reading the other water breaking thread... I'm sure they would probably work for a slow leak situation, but I'm not sure they would work for a total break? The kind with the 'gush' some moms talked about?

  • I'm at 39w1d and I've just been wearing normal pads. Might not work out well if I have a gushing situation but I figure it should work well enough if my water breaking is a trickle. Pads aren't my favorite but I'm more comfortable running around town with them than depends! I also got a waterproof pad for the bed.

Im with @mellymar . Im thinking I could still have a leakage blow out.
  • I'm just praying my water breaks at work!! I don't care about the clothing but I don't wanna clean it up around my house lol

  • Yea a normal pad would just soak through. I mean when my water broke with my first with gushes they were about every 5seconds and like 1/2 a cup of liquid came out every time. I had to waddle with a towel everywhere. The pad only lasted from the car in the parking lot to the emergency room desk for me personally just from experience.

I could really see Depends working.

  • Haha! I was considering posting similar this when I went shopping at the store yesterday. It struck me...perfect! But I hadn't bought it yet.
  • I wore them during a miscarriage... They make you sweat. I have protective covers on my bed.. So I wouldn't need them then.. But I don't know if I want to wear them every day.. I think I'd rather leak and have strangers stare at me.. Lol ( not like they know me or will ever see me again.)
  • I'm considering wearing them now just so I have less trips to pee. This every 1-2 hours to pee is driving me nuts! Also I've already placed what looks like a puppy pad under my sheet so I dont leak onto my mattress if my water breaks there.
  • A good friend recommended them to me for postpartum, so that I don't have to ruin my regular underwear or worry about bleeding everywhere. Haven't bought any yet or considered wearing them for the potential of water breaking, but it seems like a good idea!

I have had a few people recommend Depends for the first day or so postpartum then heavy pads. Speaking of pads any STM's out there have a recommendation on a kind of pads they used and really liked. Working on shopping for my hospital bag and I am completely overwhelmed by the plethora of choices out there! I now understand how my husband feels when he's in that aisle!
  • Thanks for the replies! I bought a pack of the slim line today and will maybe wear to work "depending" (pun intended) on how far along I am at my weekly check tomorrow. It was funny buying them and standing in the aisle with an older couple :) oh what fun pregnancy can be!

My friends all recommended buying the pads with wings.
The hospital should give you some.
I bought overnight maxis with wings. Probably way too many but with the extras I'm going to pour iced tea on them and freeze for soreness on the lady parts postpartum!
