Twins?!

So please don't flame me... I would also roll my eyes at this post... But here it goes...

Recently a lot of people have been asking if I am having twins because my bump is huge. At first I just thought people were being rude but now I'm starting to worry. I have a dr apt tomorrow where I will ask just to make sure. But have any of you ladies had twins when you only expected one? Does it happen often?

  • Have you not had any ultrasounds?  That is usually a pretty good way to tell for sure.

  • The days of invisible twins for the most part ended when ultrasounds became common practice. Now in rare cases I've heard of someone with high order multiples (3+) birthing an extra that they missed in a scan because it is really hard to see. That was so rare though that it made the news. If you've had your 20 week scan, it's impossible to miss. There wasn't a shot of one of my twins that the other wasn't in because it's so crowded. Don't let the rudeness mess with your head.

  • I have a friend whose twins weren't discovered until late because one was really small, but it was known by 20 weeks.
  • I have had several scans now because we were high risk for a bit. I didn't think that they would miss something but people have been really freaking me out! Thanks for replying!!
  • My husband is a missed twin however that was 1978 and his mom never had an ultrasound.

Then no, if you have had several scans by now they would have noticed something. People love to make comments and did to me as well with my first. Definitely just one baby in there!

  • No, not if you have had several scans.  I know someone and their twins were missed on the first scan, but that was at like 6w.  They saw the twins at the next u/s probably 10w or something.
  • Happened to my aunt back in 1980 but again this was before they did routine ultrasounds.

People are just being rude! I'm sure you would know by noe

  • You would definitely know by now. People will forever not know how to appropriately talk to a pregnant woman.

  • Unfortunately, a pregnant belly seems to give people a free pass to say stupid shit. I'm having twins - trust me, you would know ;)
