Weird symptoms: PVC's

I haven't seen anything heat related on this board yet, but I apologize if this has already been covered.  Just when I thought I had heard it all as far as random pregnancy symptoms goes, I get heart palpitations.  When they didn't go away after a few weeks first tri, my OB sent me to a cardiologist.  Over the past month I've had an EKG, worn a heart monitor for 14 days and this morning had an echo.  Everything looks healthy, but I am having premature ventricular contractions (PVC).  Uncomfortable but not dangerous, quite common for most people at one time or another.  Anyhow, thought I would share in-case anyone else is having heart palps. I've read in more than one source that woman often ignore their heart health because they don't want to appear to be complaining.  It never hurts to check with your doc about anything concerning you! Take care mamas!

  • How scary! Glad you are fine. I get heart palps when I get excessively mad (thanks adrenaline). Thank you for sharing!

  • Thank you for sharing.  What are the symptoms if you don't mind explaining a bit more.  I've had my left arm go numb multiple times daily since I've been pregnant and they always say that's connected to heart attacks, but I suspect I'm being a bit of a hypochondriac when I think that way.

I'd never experienced them before, they really do feel weird!  For me it happens most often when I lay down at night.  It feels like a big thump-thump every couple minutes, almost closer to my throat than what you generally think of as heart area.  There is a good explanation on the Mayo Clinic website (I use them for most internet med questions, pretty clear explanations).
Vexy, I have no medical training, so as I said, I think everything is worth a mention (we're at the doctor enough anyhow), but my arms have been so weak this pregnancy!  I worked really hard to build up my shoulders last year (my weak spot), and arms and shoulders have been the first to lose muscle since I cut back a bit on workouts.  At the end of the day, my arms can feel numb and sore too, even from something in my usual routine, like picking up my toddler or some extra long yoga poses.  Also, I go to a chiroprator pretty regularly for lower back problems, but on occasion when my neck gets out of alignment, it affects my arms (again, numb and sore).

I have PVCs frequently, I've had them for about 20 years. I find I feel them more is I am stressed at all, also I do feel them more if I am lying down. They gave me beta blockers to help, but I find it didn't help me enough to notice a difference.
  • Thanks.

You may be dealing with pregnancy carpal tunnel. I had it last time and I would have numb tingling hands/arms later in pregnancy. It resolved about 8 weeks PP.
  • I've had PACs and PVCs on and off for over 10yrs. I have noticed them more frequently since I've been pregnant, but nothing too out of the ordinary. I've had every test in the book and for me they are just an annoying benign condition.

It's good to be informed of this but if you experience palpitations or any other heart related issues please don't just assume they are benign because mine or someone else's on the internet are. Talk to your doctor.
  • I'm sorry to hear that you had to deal with all that extra testing - I know it's not fun! H has PVCs on a daily basis. I think they scare me more than him. Glad everything is okay.

  • I've had PVCs and PACs for over ten years. Mine got worse with pregnancy, and even worse in the second trimester. I saw a cardiologist early in the pregnancy, and they talked to me about how delivery can still be smooth with heart problems (which PVCs aren't, really). Now I just practice breathing and remember they will pass :).
