so my son got pink eye on Sunday night. I now also have it. The pharmacist says he wouldn't recommend using anything while pregnant. SO...any home remedies???
I had this problem at 22 weeks, however both eyes -_- and I was perscribed an onitment and it cleared up within 2 days I just had to rub it on my eye. Maybe you could ask for something like that?
No home remedies, but I had pink eye early on in this pregnancy. My primary doctor recommended erythromycin ointment because it was the only class B option. I tried it for a number of weeks but it kept coming back whenever I would stop. I ended up seeing an ophthalmologist and talking to my OB and they both recommended a stronger eye drop (forgot the name) that was a class C. It cleared up right away with that one and I wish I had just done it from the beginning. They both said the risk to the pregnancy was very low since it's so localized. I'm surprised your doc didn't at least recommend the erythromycin ointment, but it might be worth asking about. Good luck - pink eye sucks. Throw out your eye makeup and contact lenses, you can definitely reinfect yourself!
Breast milk is really effective at treating pink eye. If you don't have access to that, what about eyrithomician? That's what they put in a newborn's eyes at birth, so I would hope it's safe! One other suggestion if you cover your tear duct while applying drops it prevents most of the medication from entering your blood stream and being passed on to baby. Of course a trace amount that's left in the eye may get in, but that takes care of most of it. My eye doctor gave me that tip when I was BFing.
I would call your OB/MW I think that pharmacist is being a little too conservative.
I went in to see my doctor today. She said my case of pink eye was very mild and I was better off just doing a warm compress. If it doesn't go away in a few days then I would come back.
Re: Pink eye + preggo
Seriously that's a thing. Lmao.
I'm surprised he wouldn't have suggested polysporin drops? As far as I know those are okay.
