Prepping for both- vaginal and c-section delivery

ladies, FTM here and due July 28. I'm a bit behind than most of you. Will have my childbirth prep, breastfeeding, and newborn care classes next month. With all the prepping I've been doing for a vaginal delivery, I haven't thought twice about what to do if I end up having a c-section. Thoughts? Advice? Comments? TIA!

Just talk to women that have been through it, what it was like? About their recovery? And why they needed one?
And also possible situations that you could try before going ahead with c-section.
All labor and deliveries are the work of love. And whatever your story will be, you will have earned the mommy title! :)

  • I'm prepping for both. You can only be prepared so much BUT I am prepping for both because I might have to do a csection. I want to do vaginal but who knows :) so the difference between vaginal and cesection, you probably will be in the hospital longer if you have a cesction. The recovery is also longer if you have a cesction and the post pregnancy things are similar but slightly different. So for my hospital bag, I packed for about 2-3 days for staying in the hospital and I also have an extra bag to put dirty clothes and also extra clothes. Some women stay 2-3 days in the hospital for vaginal delivery too, that is the reason why i picked that many days. For preparing after I got the regular things (pads, wipes, cream, ice packs) but with a csection you can't really lift and do things, so we stalked everything that we needed from hygiene, cleaning products and easy to grab snacks and meals. Mentally preparing for both is different for everyone, I'm planning on getting an epidural, but my husband and I are practicing breathing exercises and relaxation methods. Because either way, they will be helpful. Good luck!
  • I'm a STM and on the first go around I wish I would've mentally prepared for either one. Instead I was set on an all natural, vaginal delivery. I was induced at 40+2, labored for 44 hours and didn't get the epidural until hour 40. I ultimately had a c section bc I only dilated to 5cm. I was not prepared and from the time they told me I had to have one to actual surgery time was maybe an hour. So I literally had no time to process it. Made recovery so much worse for me as I battled feeling like a total failure and I didn't really enjoy my first moments or days as a new mom like I wish I would have. So my suggestion is do exactly what you're doing and prepare for both as best you can. Realize that sometimes things are out of your control and ultimately having the baby sagely delivered is most important. I am having a scheduled c section this time, but have already had to start mentally preparing bc it still terrifies me. However, the actual physical recovery for me was a breeze last time. Best of luck to you and all the other ladies prepping for birth these last several weeks :)
  • @AziaNick & @mamaklemond thanks for sharing!!! I, too, have gotten so caught up in envisioning a natural, vaginal delivery that I am just now mentally preparing for a c-section... Because you never know!
