Pregnant after 35

Mini-vent after OB visit

I just left the doctor's office.  My regular OB is out today, so I had to see a different doc that I've never met before.  Worst timing ever for my OB to be out, because this is my last appointment before my EDD, which is Sunday.  Oh well.  Anyway, I didn't really care for this other doctor (I hope he's not the one on call when I eventually go into labor!), and then when he checked me and told me I am still 0% effaced, 0 cm dilated, and baby's head is at -4, I kind of wanted to smack him.  Honestly, I didn't expect much  different, because I haven't felt any real changes, but just to hear him confirm it, and the fact that I will probably go past my due date, really annoyed me.  I may be pregnant forever.  Sigh...  OK, vent over, now I have to go to work.

Ugh. I totally hear you!!! That's what my doc said last week. I was 1cm and 30% so he was like well something is going on but not much and he left pretty quickly.  My face must have told him to run. lol I was so mad. I have an appt. in an hour today and if there's no progress.. I may actually smack him. I plan on talking to him about going off work today anyway because of the leg pain I'm having.  It's been really hard to continue driving because my legs are now starting to go numb on me.  It's awful.  At my last appt.. he didn't really even ask me how I was!

The other thing he said that really ticked me off was .. 'I know.. I understand'.  I'm sorry but you are a man so there is no physical way that you are able to understand.  Those are words that as a man you should not say to a pregnant woman.. ever!

DD was 2 weeks early.  DS was a week early so I don't know what this little guy is doing but he needs to get his crap together. lol  I am beyond ready which I know you understand!

Totally agree!  I really hope one of the female docs delivers my baby, though there is one guy at the practice that I like.  (Yes, he's the one who gave me a high five for being 43, lol.)

Fiance says "I understand" a lot, and I always bite his head off about it, lol.  I know he WANTS to understand, but he really can't.  I actually feel bad for him sometimes.

  • ugh.. just got back from the OB.  STILL only 1cm.  It's killing me.. c'mon already!!!  50% effaced. Last week was 30%.  He said we shouldn't really kick start anything now because my cervix needs to progress a little bit.  So he scheduled me to come back Monday and he said if things move along by then.. he'll induce next week.

He did take me off work today though.  I came back to do my away messages and get a couple of things wrapped up and then I'll go home.  That I'm happy about becuase my legs are killing me.  I'm exhausted and everything hurts.  But I really hope things progress more by Monday.

niknak1208 - I'm glad your doc took you off work today, since you've been hurting so bad.  I really don't have much to complain about physically, I am just tired of being pregnant.

After talking to my sister, I am still hopeful that this kiddo will show up on time.  When she was pregnant, apparently, she had no dilation/effacement at her due date check-up, and they figured she was going to be super overdue.  But, the next day, her water broke and she totally went into labor.  Fingers crossed!!!

  • @ewenner well that's encouraging! I keep trying to tell myself the same thing. That every pregnancy is different and things can happen quick even when it seems like there's no progress. I'm crossing my fingers that there will be more progress by Monday. :(

I am definitely tired of being pregnant. But it's the leg pain that's driving me nuts! I feel like a disabled person!

  • I was only 2cm when I showed up at the hospital, and progressed to 3 over the next few hours after having my membranes swept... I was also couch shopping during early labor, convinced that it would take a few days for things to get moving (instead it was a matter of hours). So you just never know. The numbers don't meant much. I would take this OB's diagnosis that "not much" is going on with a grain of salt.
  • I never dilated and my babies' heads would be real high until I was very fully in labor.  Even after so many babies, I still don't dilate prior to labor.  So even though you are not really making much progress now....an hour from now you could be in labor!  You never know
  • That's what I'm hoping for! I'm not sure if he will just strip my membranes are actually schedule induction. My membranes were swept with DS and a week later I went into labor on my own and was a 4 when admitted. I'm not sure what I was dialated to with DD because I had spotting and that's why they induced. I was contracting but not strong yet.

We will see! I'm trying to just relax and realize this isn't something I can control. :(.

Sorry if I hijacked your post ewenner!! I feel bad about that actually. :(. I hope things start progressing for both of us!

Thanks for all of your encouragement, ladies!  I know it's impossible to predict, so I am just going to have to play the waiting game.  Just hopefully  not for too much longer!

niknak1208 - I don't feel like you hijacked my post at all.  I actually think it's kind of nice to hear someone else who's EDD is so close to mine going through some of the same frustrations.  :)

Sorry I kinda hijacked one of your threads earlier this week.  I sometimes lose focus.
