Babies on the Brain

Not TTC, 4 days late, 3 negative tests. What?!

I hope this is ok to post here!

Normally my period is like clockwork. Always, unless I am pregnant. DD is 3.5, and DS just turned 1 yesterday. I am 4 days late with a little bit of cramping, but no blood whatsoever. The fact that I am always regular is driving me nuts because I would love to know so we can start planning-or not plan!

I've taken 3 neg tests over the last 3 days.I even bought the same equate tests that we used our past pregnancies. Anyone else have this happen? Am I just losing it? Lol.

Can anyone recommend a more definitive test? I would hate to have to go to the doctor to be told I'm not pregnant and just paranoid. Plus, our clinic will make you wait until you've missed 2 periods to come in at all. I may just have to go anyway. Thanks!

  • Are you temping & charting? Unless you are you won't know when you ovulated which means you won't know when to expect your period.

Even if your cycles are typically very predictable, your body can just change it up on you for no reason. If tests are coming back negative, you are not pregnant at this time and most likely you just ovulated later than normal this cycle.

It's certainly frustrating when your body suddenly changes things on you. If you're not temping I recommend looking into it because it would bring you clarity when your body decides to be a pain like this.

I've never done the tempting and charting but I have been tracking my periods/ovulation with a tracker. I suppose it could be off though. I was ovulating 2 weeks ago when we were 'intimate' and so I suspected that's where I could have gotten pregnant-if I was.

I will have to check the tempting out!

The only way to know if you ovulate is by temping.  Most period/ovulation trackers just assume a regular 28 day cycle with O on CD14.  Lots of ladies use the FF app and it's great for tracking cycles to confirm O.  You probably O'd later than what the app says.

Thank you girls, my period showed up this morning! I must have worried it to come lol. I'll have to also check that app out, would be great to know when I ovulate, even if were not TTC.
  • As @kgbbsc7 mentioned, most apps simply work off a calendar and averages. The app will tell you you ovulated on CD14, when in actuality unless you are inputting temps, the app doesn't actually have a clue as to when you ovulated.

Fertility Friend (FF) is a great website/app and I think temping is a really simple way to actually know what is going on with your body.

There are tutorials on the FF website that can teach you what to do. There are also a lot of tempers around TheBump (myself included) that can help with questions.

  • I also reccomend the book " taking charge of your fertility" totally opened my eyes. You look at fluids and temp together to know what is going on with your body. I also used ovulation tests (like a preg. test) to make sure my calculations were correct when we were trying.
