13 weeks NO APPETITE... HELP !

I am now 13 weeks, and on and off I have struggled with an appetite this pregnancy, nothing like my first child where I wanted to eat everything in sight. Also my morning sickness has been brutal, everything smells bad and meats have become a total turnoff. I have continued taking my vitamin, and I am drinking ENSURE PLUS to maintain weight, but are there any other recommendations. I am worried about the baby's growth.

  • When I was nauseated, all I could stomach was toast, rice, and bland oatmeal. Sometimes I could eat apples or apple sauce. Basically, eat whatever you can keep down. What does your doctor say?

  • It's scary, but trust your doctor.  If they're not worried, you probably shouldn't be either.  Babies will literally suck the nutrients from your body if they aren't getting it from your diet.  They will leach the iron from your blood and the calcium from your bones.  I noticed earlier someone mentioned if you've not lost 10% or more of your body weight there is no need to worry.

  • Eat what you can when you can.
Don't worry about gaining weight. A lot of us haven't gained or have lost.
    Stay hydrated too.
I have to eat small meals because I get full so fast and things gross me out easily. I pretty much graze on little things all day and still haven't gained any.
If your doctor isn't worried you shouldn't be either.
  • Echoing PPs.. I was even told losing weight during the first trimester is perfectly normal because of nausea. It sounds like you're doing a great job with the shakes and the prenatal! Maybe you can make your own green smoothies with a splash of juice, some fruits, and spinach? The spinach doesn't taste like anything and it's loaded with folic acid for baby. :)

Don't worry. I have not had an increased appetite at all during this pregnancy and I'm 15 weeks along. About 13 weeks like you, I totally lost my appetite, I wasn't nauseous, I just wasn't hungry and had no desire to eat. Doctor said it was fine and just try to eat little amounts of food every couple of hours. I haven't gained a single pound yet and doctor said a lot of women don't gain any weigh until 20 weeks. I would continue with protein shakes and try to make smoothies.
  • Thanks ladies

I had an appt, today and the dr said no worries as usual. I am going to do some homemade shakes w/ spinach and all that good stuff too!
