PSA - just call your doctor.

As we get closer to the grand finale, can we please just agree that anything that feels like labor should be addressed with a legit doctor instead of this forum? Use The Bump for scenarios where maybe you're reaching out for support, want to know if anyone else has been in the same situation, or anything other than "should I call my doctor/am I in labor" questions to a bunch of strangers who are not medical professionals. Save the drama for your... self. That is all.

  • OP- starting a post dedicated to telling people what they can and can't post is quite high risk for getting yourself reported/banned for trolling (limiting others use of TB). @mers90 is just trying to diplomatically say it's best to live and let live if you want to stick around here, else sooner or later be reported to admins. There are so many ladies here from all over the world it's natural for there to be some disagreement over what is acceptable or appropriate, however people don't get banned for asking the occasional 'dumb' question but for responding to others in a harsh or excessively negative way. I'm not trying to tell you what to write or not write (I honestly don't take this forum all that seriously and at the end of the day you're a big girl and can decide for yourself) x

She didn't tell anyone that posting anything was a bad idea. Merely asked that we leave the labor questions to a doc/midwife.
Suggestions(nice and not 'jump off a bridge' ones) that get reported are one of the few things that don't automatically get the ban hammer or warnings.

  • Never be embarrassed about going! With my first, I thought my water broke but I had actually just peed my pants. The nurses assured me it happens a lot AND that trip found some blood pressure issues that would've otherwise been missed.

    Better safe than sorry!

My water broke what do I do? :))
  • Omg she didn't post this to tell people what they can't post but seriously with people asking if they are in labor is ridiculous. We are not Drs so we are for sure not going to be able to tell if somebody is in labor until they physically get checked out by a dr. We surely can't examine them thru a forum now can we?! I think that's why the "am I in labor" posts are advised. Even says so in the section of the rules. If you called your dr and are waiting to hear back and you post expressing that you called your dr and so on then that's where you will get support but defiantly won't be getting any asking strangers if your in labor

She isn't dictating what people should post. She's literally advising people that they should check with their doctor (because...DUH) before going crazy on the forums. Which is solid, helpful advice, because your doctor knows your exact situations better than anyone on here, and because people can have drastically different labor experiences. She flat out said POST HERE IF YOU NEED SUPPORT. Nowhere in her post does she tell people what they can and cannot post.

I mean it's one thing to ask what to expect. Or ask if your mild random contractions are a sign of labor around the corner. But I seen some where they say there contractions are steady and they have a bloody show, and even ones where they gushed fluid and should they call a doctor? I understand fully not wanting to rush to the hospital over random concerns, and feeling like an idiot. But if your water breaks, your contractions are steady, or your bleeding... Chances are you need to be seen by a doctor!

asking for support and medical advice are two separate things... we don't know you, your history, or your doctor's protocol... if you think something's wrong, call your doctor... it is getting a little tiring to see the same questions with the same answers every day. Let's all just agree... to call our doctors...

  • I will say my two cents. I personally feel insufficient when people ask for medical issues. Mainly because I am not a doctor but I am not a good enough to answer the questions submitted.

For FTM's (or even STM's and so on), I think most of us on this forum can agree that it isn't because we are annoyed by the questions. Truthfully, that it is not my personal feelings regarding those posts and I don't intend to make it sound like that. It's mainly because we are all in the same situation and I care for you and want you to go to the right source for answers. In matters of your own health and your baby, we want you to be safe and ask the doctor.

And I totally get it. Anything that feels slightly different makes you want to second guess and possibly go into labor because at this point you want nothing more than to meet your baby. But just listen to your body. Talk to your doctor about any questions or concerns you have when you visit him/her next time. They are more than willing to answer. In ways that we on the forum can't.

    Good luck everyone!

P.S. Don't forget to treat everyone with kindness :)

@mers90 If my post bothers you so much you could have just ignored it. ;) I'll be sure to alert you each time I need to crap, just in case I need your opinion on whether it's a baby or a turd coming out. Or both as the case tends to be!

I get your point. But just wait a few more weeks as we all get closer and you juuuust might like my request after all.

    Oh the irony...

If the annoying "am I in labor" post bothers you... Take your own advice
