Had quite severe 'period pains' that woke me up last night ?

hey,
So last night about 5.30am I woke up with horrible pains that felt like I was on my period. It wouldn't go away and I thought maybe I needed the toilet (sorry) but tried and didn't need to go. They lasted until about half past 6 when I managed to get back to sleep. I thought maybe Braxton hicks but they aren't meant to last that long and should be painless?

Anybody had this and has any idea what this could be ? Am hoping it is a one off and that it won't keep happening.

  • My OB has asked me to call her if I ever get any cramping that feels like or worse than menstrual cramping. Give your doctor a call.

  • Braxton Hicks aren't necessarily painless. But I agree with PP. My doctor has also told me to call if i experience anything similar or worse than period cramping.
  • Thanks for your replies, I think I will call If it happens again but It has gone away so I'm not to worried for now x
  • It usually happens to me when I need to go to the toilet, you might be constipated, or your bladder could be cramping from an infection. Either way, phone you doctor
  • I've noticed that when I don't drink as much water as I should my belly gets hard and hurts. I don't really get menstrual cramps so I can't say if it's the same thing. When this happens I drink my water and it goes away. Just thought I would put it out there but definitely call your Dr if it happens again.
  • @cindee92 I would still give your doctor a ring and let them know what happened.

  • My Braxton hicks are always painful and I've had this problem for months. It only gets worse for me. More painful starts around 7pm and stops when the sun rises. However, they are irregular and come every 7-10 min on average. I believe I'm suffering from prodromal labor. If they become more regular or closer together then I will call labor and delivery. Since this is the first time this has happened to you, you should call labor and delivery or your OB/or Midwife to see what they say. They used a ultrasound to make sure my cervix wasn't dilating.

Adding on to this. Dehydration is one of the main causes for preterm labor. So drink up ladies!
