Experienced moms - How many burp cloths and bibs do you need? I have received wildly conflicting advice on this (from 4-12). I know she won't be eating solid food for a while but spit up, drool, etc.
It really depends on the kid. My last baby had reflux and puked non-stop. I had to do a load of bibs, clothes, burp cloths, and receiving blankets every.single.day.
To start with I think you'd be fine with half dozen bibs and a dozen burp cloths (I just used receiving blankets). That *should* hold you over a few days between laundry.
IMO, there is no such thing as too many bibs. We went through quite a few each day with all of the drool. DS did not spit up much, but the drool was insane and I hated him being wet so I changed his bib often.
A shitload of them. There is no quantitative answer here. As many as you can afford and as many as you can possibly be gifted. I had at least 2 drawers full.
I didn't use bibs but I have at least thirty receiving blankets that were distributed all around the house to clean up a plethora of different messes in those first few months. They were in bed side tables, end tables, everywhere! New babies are messy!
I will also add that I prefer the bibs that snap vs. the velcro bibs. Velcro gets caught on things in the wash (even if you velcro them before you wash them sometimes) and it can scratch baby's face depending on where it is on the bib and how rough it is/how well you secure the bib, etc. - snaps just eliminate a lot of issues IMO and they stay nicer. I also agree with PP's who said receiving blankets work just fine for burp cloths.

My sister also recommended receiving blankets over burp clothes to me. She found the burp clothes to be way to small to be effective at catching the messes.
I love cloth diapers for spit up and for stuffing in my bra when there is too much milk spraying for a little nursing pad to handle.

FTM so not an educated answer but so far (gifted and not gifted) I have a pack of 10 x mini muslins that I plan on using as burp cloths/rags, 2 x Aden and Anais burpy bibs, 4 x regular bibs and 3 x dribble bibs.. I'm not planning to get any more until I know what I'm dealing with! Haha. On top of that I have 9 x normal size muslin swaddles too which I can always use if I find myself in a messy emergency. I think I've got loads to get me started.. If I need more, I'll buy them as I go.
I love the Aden and anis burpy/ bibs. They're great for using as a burp cloth and thick enough to use as a bib for spit up and once you're ready to start solids. I still use them on my 18 month old.

This... I hate the Velcro ones... The scratch baby's poor neck.

If you get a lot as gifts, open a few packs of bibs or burp cloths and save the rest to return if you find out you aren't using them.
