Trouble TTC

Intro (loss mentioned)

Hello everyone, looking for some comfort, help, and friends during this hard time in my life.  It's hard to talk to others that don't understand since they have never gone through it.  I'm 28 years old, my husband and i have been together for almost 6 years married for almost 3.  When i was young and 1st started my period i had several issues.  I used to get my period basically 2 times a month and for about 2 weeks at a time with excessive bleeding and lots of pain.  At this point i had an ultrasound down and some test, everything came back clear.  The doctor put me on b/c to try to regulate my periods.  I went off of it a few years later to see if my hormones regulated and only lasted a few months without the pill before going back on since it was still horrible. I went off of birth control when my husband and i decided to ttc well over a year ago and bleed on and off (but mostly on) for almost 5 months straight, complete hell!  After several different tries at a wide arrange of medication and tons of bloodwork and tests later, nothing worked.  Bloodtests all came back fine, except my thyroid is a little low, but not enough to cause too much concern.  I also had an ultra sound done and physically have no deformities.  At that point i had a D&C done to try to control the bleeding and it worked!  i began to finally have regular periods and got pregnant 2 months after.  Unfortunately, this ended in a miscarriage, more specifically a Blighted Ovum.  I had to have another D&C done.  After that i have yet to had a normal period, it's been 4 months and lots of bleeding.  Again my doctor tried different medications but called today and said he thinks it's best to have another D&C to hopefully give my body another jump start.  I'm scared at what all the surgeries are doing to my body but feel helpless since this seems to be the only thing that ultimately works. it's hard to just trust the doctors and i'm also wondering when it's time to seek out an RE.  It's been a long journey so far but i'm far from giving up, just need a place to vent.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss I know how it feels. I'm sort of new to the whole experience I have had trouble trying to convince for almost two years. A lot of the women on here have suggested I see an RE. I think it would e good for you as well. From what I understand they do a whole bunch of other tests a normal obgyn doesn't do. I am always here if you need to talk. Keep your head up.

Welcome to the board,  and I'm really sorry for your loss.  You are definitely in the right place!   I do have some advice for you --- you are long past due to seeing a specialist, specifically, a reproductive endocrinologist.     It's outrageous that you haven't been referred to one before now.  A simple "jump start" via D&C with no investigation into your uterine lining is just unacceptable.    You need more than an ultrasound, you need an HSG and possibly a small procedure to visualize inside your uterus.

Your excessive bleeding is not the problem, it's a symptom of something else.  An RE will figure out what is going on and can get a treatment plan for you.  Most OBGYNs are not equipped to properly treat the TTC experience that you're describing.

Please stick around, give some support and let us know what you decide to do next as time progresses.  HUGS

  • thanks for the kind words and support!  i've been playing with the idea about going to see an RE and now i think i definitely will start trying to find one.  i know i'll only regret it if i continue to put it off.  plus i cannot put up with the constant period much longer, it's depressing, exhausting, and no fun!

Good for you!  Definitely take charge of the situation, too many OBGYNs waste time on treatments that won't help or can set you back even further financially and healthwise.    If you'd like, I'll add you to our weekly checkin.

I am so sorry for your loss @sandybrook!  I am also surprised to hear your ob/gym hasn't referred you to an RE.  I think an RE will be able to give you and your husband more insight.  I've only known mine for a short while but so far I love her; make sure you find one you're comfortable around because you see and talk to them often :) sending you good vibes & hoping for the best!  xoxo
  • i'd love to be added to weekly check ins, thanks!!
