Advice on Airplane Travel causing Back Pain

Hi all,
I travel a ton for work, like 3 out of 4 weeks a month I am on the road, and have never had issues with back pain on the plane until now. I am 12w4d and didn't start noticing issues until about week 11. Now even a short 1 hour and a half flight leaves my lower back in a ton of pain!! About midway through the flight my back will start to hurt, almost suddenly, and it is excruciating and difficult to endure the remainder of the flight.

As anyone else experienced this and have an advice they can share? Can other travel mommies share their tips and tricks for surviving lots of travel?

I have a red-eye flight from Southern California to Washington DC this coming Friday (the 29th), so I am hoping to learn some tricks before then to help me survive this LONG flight!

  • Goodness you are a busy momma! Kudos to you! I know there are a lot of lumbar support pillows and such but they are kind of pricey. If anything use the good ol water bottle or tennis ball wrapped in a towel and place it on your lower back. It works for me. I have an extra vertebrae and back pain is no joke! Also, DoTerra has a deep blue rub and it is AMAZING! It's like icy hot but 1000x's better.

  • Would recommend a quick appointment with a physical therapist, they can show you some targeted stretches to relieve the stress and pain in your back. I travel a lot too and though I have been ok so far during my pregnancy, there have been times when I have been hurting.

I bet acupuncture and/or prenatal yoga stretches and core strength exercises would help.
