Uncontrollable shivering at night?

Hi, all- last night I woke up in the night with something really weird. I had to pee, but I was freezing. I had blankets on and my skin felt normal temperature. I got out of bed, and was violently shivering to the point where every muscle would contract with each shake. It was really scary, and not just "I'm really cold" but felt like I was on the brink of hypothermia. I couldn't physically stop the shaking. When it was all done (once I got under lots of blankets and after around 5 minutes), I felt her move so I was relieved. I have had this happen one other time, around 11 weeks.

I'm wondering if I had low blood pressure from sleeping on my back (cutting off blood flow), since I keep waking up on my back.

Has anyone had this happen?

I am seeing my doctor tomorrow, so I'll update then no matter what in case someone else experiences this.

Re: Uncontrollable shivering at night?

  • Yes. I was waking up in the morning with really bad chills and shivering. I ran it by my doctor last week and he said its completely normal. It has to do with the changes in your blood.
Always hold on to hope ❤

This happened to me a lot during the winter (and we keep our house warm) it didn't happen to me before pregnancy though, so I attributed it to being on blood thinners. Seriously it didn't make a different how much clothing or blankets I had on I would wake up shivering/shaking uncontrollably. I would have to wake DH up to cuddle with me, that was the only way I could warm up.
  • Has happened here, too. Once about 2 months ago, again a couple of days ago.
  • This has happened to me too, several times. Chattering teeth, uncontrollable shaking. I guess it's normal.
