Bed rest... With a 2 yr old?! Yeah right....

I don't know if anyone else is in this position... My dr put me on bed rest for 3 days: went well until the hubs went to his golf league (which isn't a big deal). Except, now after 3 hours on my own with a 2.5 yr old, I'm crampy, sore, tense muscles in all those baby carrying/growing areas.

Admittedly, I'm freaked out. He's been climbing on me, the kid... not the hubs (haha), kicked me Friday during his hair cut (which I shoulda expected because his a sensory processing kid & hair cuts are never pleasant), and just never stops...

So, after spotting Sat & belong I'll all weekend (bronchitis... Awesome!) I'm just feeling crappy. I'm kinda afraid of what dr will tell me if I call, so I'm doing that thing where we reach out to a community of hyper-aware women in the sane boat as us to get a better feeling BEFFORE I call the dr once the kiddo is in bed & I can concentrate.

Ugh.
Doing my best to make a happy home for my two favorite guys & eagerly awaiting the arrival our #2 in Nov '15.

  • Do you have anyone that can come help. Does your mom or friend live close and could take him for a couple hrs. If on bed rest you really need that help sometimes. At they age they think mommy is super mom and can do anything. Sorry I hope your able to rest soon.

I have been on bedrest for 12 weeks now with a 14 month old. Yes, you need a lot of help, but it's for the safety of your baby.
  • You could try some strategies to wear the little guy out. Put on some music and see how long he'll dance. Get him to do a hunt for various items in the house (things he can go find and bring back to you.) Maybe teach him the head, shoulders, knees, and toes song to see how long he'll do that. Try seeing if he'll pretend to be your pet and act like a dog and go fetch items you can softly toss or roll from the bed. Tell him about house fairies/gnomes and see if he can find any of them. My daughter has ADHD, keeping her busy with little stuff always helps. She collected so many acorns for acorn soup when she was little. It's ridiculous, but it keeps her occupied and me sane.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this situation. I hope whatever health issues are causing the doctor to prescribe bed rest are resolved quickly.

  • I just thought of the NyQuil/DayQuil commercials from around two years ago when mom/dad pop in to the "office" to a take a sick day and the camera switches to the "boss" - their LO looking at them like they grew a new head. @VexyMommy has amazing advice! I hope you feel better and that your LO will at least give you a small break.
