gtky: book recomendations

All of a sudden, during my pregnancy I have become a book worm. I just finished Neil Gaiman's ocean at the end of the lane, and Cheryle Strayed's wild. Looking for some of all of your all time favorite reads to inspire my next library trip. Pregnancy books, novels, biography, classics, anything goes. What are your favorites?

  • Read the good girl, it's similar to
Gone Girl. I just finished it, crazy good.

I just started, "Dear Sugar," by Cheryle Strayed. It is from an old advice column. It is nice if you don't always have a ton of time to read since each one is a separate story, so you can read as much or as little as you want!
  • I'm a huge fan of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. There's 8 books in this series and a bunch of short stories and novellas to go along with it. I'm a suckers for series, and this is a good one.

I'm always looking for new books to read too. :)
  • Anything by Philippa Gregory. Her most famous is The other Boleyn girl but she has tons of books. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden.

  • I loved "The Help" written by Kathryn Stockett and told from multiple perspectives and dialects. If you like fiction crime/who dunnits, all the books by Tana French are good. All set in Ireland with really interesting plot lines. I'm jealous you're so into reading, pregnancy always makes me too scatter brained to read and I hate it because I love reading!

  • I just finished Station Eleven by Emily st. Mandel, and if you're intrigued by post-apocalyptic settings/dystopian futures, it's definitely worth a read!
  • I am reading "Long Dark Teatime of the Soul" by Douglas Adams.  He is hilarious.  I love to read and am in a book club, this causes me to read outside of my usual genre (adventure, sci-fi, fantasy etc...)  I read "wild" last year and refuse to see the movie!

I would recommend "The Night Circus" by Erin Morganstern.  It was one of my favorite books that I have read over the past 3 years.
    Here is the excerpt:
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

It is a bit fantasy (think of harry potter) and a love story and a bit of a mystery.  Moreover, it is really well written, which is a challenge to find!

Anything by Jennifer Weiner! I've read all of her books and love them all!
  • Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child write a series I like (murder mystery/thriller type)  and James Rollins is another good author (save the world before anyone knows it's in danger sort).

The Children of the Earth series is a good one too - set with early man and mammoths and such.

I second these too! If you like Downton Abbey, Kate Morton is a great read!
