my child is a vampire!

Hi all, so my Carolyn is now 3 weeks old. I know babies have abnormal sleep patterns when very young but I would love some advice. We Get longest stretches of sleep are in the morning from say 7 to 10! Today she went down at 9 and is still sleeping at 1! Waking her up is torture like she is a college kid who's been out all nightand sleeps all day. How can I get this stretch to become a nighttime thing?

Re: my child is a vampire!

  • My baby girl sleeps the longest from around 1AM to anywhere between 6-10AM. She used to go to bed between 3 and 4 and my fiancé was telling me to keep her up during the day so she'll sleep earlier but I did the opposite and it actually worked. I gave her naps during the day whenever I saw a yawn. But at night (before I want a long sleep) we've gotten into the routine of dad coming home, showering (bathing baby), dad giving her a bottle (now because we are trying to get her used to bottle when I go back to work) and me giving her more if she's still hungry, then rocking and to bed. It's taken a couple weeks but every night is a little earlier.

  • my baby also sleeps the longest from1 or2 am to 9 or 10 am and awake the longest from 5 pm onwards so its very difficult to establish good night routine for me
  • My lactation consultant recommended feeding every 2 hours during the day to help her figure out her days and nights faster. DD is a pretty good sleeper but I still don't let her sleep more than 3-3.5 hours at a time during the day. (I did wake her almost every 2 hours during the day for her first 2 weeks of life).
  • Thanks for the reply, any suggestions of what to do to keep the little lady awake? She's a pretty solid deep sleeper for a baby
  • I usually change bubs nappy before a feed and he absolutely hates it, it wakes him up though...
  • Do not keep her wake she's only 3 weeks old if she's sleeping she needs it and staying awake will not help her sleep more at night! Best advice my pediatrician gave us was expose her to daylight during the day and keep lights low bs voices soft at night so she can etblish a pattern. She needs to sleep whenever she can to help with her development .. Ask your pediatrician
