Trying to Get Pregnant

Labour

Anyone more scared than normal about giving birth.. Curious on your opinions I do suffer from anxiety from time to time, so probably overthinking it too much ;)

Re: Labour

  • I don't know what "normal" is. Currently I'm just trying to get KU. One step at a time! Are you TTC?

Have you been temping? It's possible you ovulated late, if not go POAS. It should be able to be read it now. Keep testing until you get BFPA or your period. If you do get your BFP, it's not considered polite to post it on here (just move to your birth month board). If you're not, I'd recommend reading the "if you could tell a newbie anything" and participating.

  • Sorry I thought people posted their questions here for advice, the question still applies as to whether I am or not yet, I am ttc and this is my concern was just wondering if anyone else felt the same

I'm more anxious/concerned about getting pregnant as I'm now going into cycle 8. I'll worry about labor/delivery if/when I get knocked up. Something about putting the cart before the horse, you know.

If you're late, take a test. If it's positive, no need to tell us here and you can head over to your BMB.

  • You aren't "late" you just ovulated later than usual. Unfortunately, your cycle doesn't read a calendar....

I am terrified of labor, and its one of the reasons I didn't even want to get knocked up. There is a thread on this board titled "Postpartum AMA" I suggest you read, its very insightful.

  • Hello! I generally lurk (though recently there's been some awesome threads that made me want to contribute), but I can relate on being scared of labour. Heck, I'm scared of pregnancy. Most of my lady friends don't give it much thought when I bring up the topic. So I suppose that's the "normal" you're referring to. And while some people are comfortable taking it one step at a time or one day at a time, for me that just makes the anxiety worse. We put off TTC for a while because my fear was so overwhelming. Or I kept secretly wishing it wouldn't happen.

Anyway, since my fear was anxiety-inducing my mental health professionals recommend I try to gather as much information as possible.  I mean, we tend to prep for a lot of life changing experiences so why not pregnancy and childbirth? First, I identified what I think labour is (screaming, tearing, maternal death, lack of consent, c-sections). Pain didn't scare me, but the idea that I wouldn't know what was wrong did. Then I identified why I thought that way. The root of it is from hearing other people talk and a cousin of mine almost died from hemorrhaging. Now, I read a ton of books and watch documentaries or TED Talks. Books on pain relief, the stages of pregnancy, Bradley method, Lamaze, Ina May Gaskin, etc.

Long story short I'm just now reaching a point where I'm willing to take it a step at a time.
  • Totally with you. I haven't gotten my BFP yet, but the idea of going through labor is pretty intimidating! Really love the process you went through @purrbucket. Going to keep that in mind for the future!

  • Thanks purrbuket that helps, I was the same too scared to ttc at first but now I'm too scared too miss out.. You are right just one step at a time

I'd go ahead and take a test if you're 6 days late.  You wouldn't be experiencing pregnancy symptoms this early anyways.

I wouldn't say I'm more scared than usual about giving birth, but the idea of labor and all of the messiness that comes along with it (and after it) is kind of scary!

  • I think it's normal to be scared about it. I wasn't on board TTC even though my DH was ready a couple years ago because the idea of it freaked me out too much. I think what changed for me is realizing it's something your body was designed for and can handle. You also aren't required to love being pregnant. To quote someone that either wrote a comment on here or somewhere else (I can't remember), you get pregnant to have a baby, not to be pregnant for 9 months.

  • I don't think I'll start being nervous for labor until I actually get KU. At this point I'm nervous about TTC.
  • Probably cause I have no other symptoms
Well if you have no other symptoms, why are worried about giving birth now?

Just take a test. Really. But it could still be negative even if you're "6 days late" because you don't know when you ovulated, and therefore don't know when to expect your AF.
