Bed Rest at 31 weeks

So after two hospital admissions this past week for high blood pressure, I have been put on bed rest. I'll be 32 weeks on Wednesday so I've still got a ways to go. As of right now I don't have preeclampsia - blood work and urine came back good and I'm not experiencing any swelling, headaches or vision changes but they'll be continuing to test for it. I had an ultrasound while in L&D and luckily baby looks great. Amniotic fluid, blood flow and placenta are all in good shape and she's measuring 4 days ahead. They got a good view of her stomach that showed her taking practice breaths which they were happy with.

So now I'm home on bedrest and already bored after two days. They want me on my side as much as possible and my hips are already screaming.

I'll be alternating between seeing my doctor and the perinatologist once a week so I'm getting checked every 4 days and they're saying I'll likely be induced at 37 weeks unless my blood pressure behaves.

Re: Bed Rest at 31 weeks

  • Uggggghhhh!!! Sorry to hear that. There is a great bed rest board on the high risk pregnancy page. I highly recommend it.

There are a few of us July's on BR. It's rough and sooooooooo boring but worth it in the long run.

    Hang in there!

  • I've been on bed rest for about a month, and it's not too bad :) schedules will be your best friend. It helps the day go by faster. Movies, books, little projects and talking story with your friends and family to keep updated on everything is what I do. I started my daughters scrapbook so that when she comes we can put pictures in it already and let me just say, Internet shopping...AWESOME haha also I have been researching on baby food recipes, catching up on bills, workouts for after pregnancy. There are a lot of things you can do :) Pamper yourself by relaxing and taking it easy. Take baths and listen to music and talk to the baby :D don't worry, you will find something to do and catch up on! :D
  • I'm sorry to hear all of that and hope for the best. Two weeks ago I ended up in the hospital with extremely high blood pressure and all my labs came back fine just like you, my doctor put me on methaldopa 250mg 2X a day and it has helped dramatically. I'd ask your doctor if you can possibly get on some blood pressure medicine that is safe for you and baby.
  • In the exact same boat! Last week went in for a weekly checkup and ended up in L&D once they checked my Bp. Was in the hospital for two days being monitored. Just like you, all my tests came back great, urine was good, and baby girl was rockin it on the monitors and stress tests. I'm on bed rest now and they also gave me BP meds, which has helped a lot. My dr still won't release me off bed rest, which sucks. She also keeps saying, "We want to make sure we make it to 37 weeks" (I'm 35 weeks today). I'm not sure if that means she wants to induce at that time or what? Anywho...wanted to let you know I feel your pain. :( I hope things continue to go well for you and your little one! Take it easy and keep that pesky Bp down! ;)
  • I'm in the same situation also
