killer back pain lower left side only - cause and relief ideas???

Woke up with agonizing pain above buttock on lower back yesterday. Got progressively worse until SO had to help me sit and stand. Don't think its sciatica as not in butt or leg. Hobbling around hoping to ease this as only 25 weeks and dont want to live like this for 15 more if I can avoid! Thoughts suggestions?

  • Chiropractor mine helped when I had similar issues, also get your hubby to rub your back the muscles could be over stretched and tense and last walk and walk that will loosen up those ligaments that are stretching

Thanks - quite painful to walk. Hadn't thought of a chiro tho!

  • Lower back on only one side could potentially be kidney related so if stretching and chiro doesn't help or if it gets worse, I would call your OB/midwife.

I have that and my doctor said that it is sciatica unfortunately. :( At first I ended up at the ER because it was so bad... Including the leg but over time it got better to where the leg no longer hurt or was numb.
Ask your OB but she will tell you to go see a chiropractor or give you something for it. Mine also told me to be active... Easier said than done sometimes.
  • Chiro will help lots. I go monthly, sometimes more. My ob said it'll get worse the further along I get. Today my Chiro said to ice it on and off before bed for 30 minutes cause I had some inflammation as well.

a sock filled with rice throw it in the microwave for a 45 sec to a min. depending on how much heat you can handle and resting your back on it.
  • The pain has subsided about 60%but its been 3 days so will try chiro and or massage therapy. Deffo not sciatica as doesn't go to butt or leg. Have made myself get at least 15 mins of exercise, hot water bottle.

Yoga. It's completely ended the pain I was starting to get in my hips and lower back. I take a couple classes a week and do 15 minutes every morning, and have been feeling great. I also agree that you might need a visit to the chiro. But regular yoga should help a lot.
  • This pregnancy and my first I have had a lot of pain on my right side and it turned out to be my SI joint licking up. The chiropractor helped so much, but it did it daily and I couldn't afford daily adjustments. I learned how to pop it myself, but I don't recommend that without seeing a chiro first. When the SI joint locjs up, it is really painful to walk or anything, but it's not muscular.
  • I have the same thing...chiro is a must...ice it...and get a support! I swear the only thing that is worse is when you're stuck on the toilet bc it decided to act up while you get up in the middle of the night to pee b-(
  • Thanks again. Seems to have resolved itself now but great advice for future or others.Especially doing yoga - helped a lot! :)
  • I had / am having the exact same pain!! Low back/top of buttocks on left side. Its not full blown sciatica but it is the baby pressing on the sciatic nerve. I'm seeing a prenatal chiro. I went 1x last week and I've already felt it easing up. I hope it continues :)
