Frequent urination, little outcome

So I've had frequent urges to pee over the last few days, and usually little outcome. I'm 14w and 4 days. Could it be the baby pressing up against my bladder already? And if so, will it be relieved once the baby moves up in my abdomen?

Or might it be at UTI? I have no other symptoms of one, whatsoever.
Baby number 1 on the way!

It's very likely that the baby is on your bladder. UTIs are usually accompanied with pain and sometimes blood.

  • Not a doctor to tell for sure obviously, but I've never had a pain-free uti..could still be some sort of infection. As for it maybe being the baby, that seems a little early, but everyone is different I suppose.
  • I'm having the same thing happen. I have to pee at least every half hour and there's usually very little urine.
I've heard from other moms that I work with that they remember having to pee way more frequently, early in their pregnancy, than they expected.
Ask at your next appointment if your concerned or call the doc for some advice. My office is pretty good about calming my nerves.
  • Same thing for me. I think it's due to pressing on the bladder.
  • The uterus comes up underneath the bladder, so in the first trimester, it grows upward and puts pressure on it causing it to feel like you have to pee a lot. Secondary to that, your blood volume increases drastically during the same time causing those kidneys to work extra hard filtering the extra blood. It's a double whammy. Once the uterus moves up and over and baby starts to push outward, it will get better during the second trimester! And then it will start again in the last trimester when baby gets heavy and starts to push down on TOP of the bladder, causing the peeing again, lol! It's sort of a vicious cycle :).

Try to lean forward when finishing to probably empty your bladder.

I'm 15 weeks today. I had the same problem. My doctor told me to make sure I drink enough during the day and cut back at night. He said the little outcome is most likely just trouble emptying and is common in pregnancy even this early. My urine was clear of infection and he said I'd deffinatly know if it was a uti, they're typically more painful in pregnancy
  • UTI's often take days or weeks to produce other symptoms, and sometimes they don't ever. I would call your doc or go to urgent care if insurance covers it because its just a quick urine test. If you can't get in to be seen or you'd like to avoid antibiotics, super high doses of cranberry pills can kick an early UTI in the butt. I work in home health and often use cranberry to treat UTI's. I just have them take 4 to 6 cranberry pills (or chewables if preferred) 4 times daily. Symptoms usually improve within a few hours or a day and I keep them on it for a week just to be safe. Its completely safe, justlike eating a bbunch of cranberries. I'm pretty prose to UTI's and I take three pills twice daily which reduced me from 6 or 7 a year to just one in the last year and a half. I increased it to three times a day when I got pregnant just because they're so previlant. WheniI do get them I treat with cranberries first because I would hate to developed a resistant infection.
  • I'm 14 weeks and I have the urge to pee every 30 minutes or so. Sometimes I rush to the bathroom thinking I'm going to pee on myself only to have a little come out. I'm hoping it'll let up soon!
  • I had the same thing, I was sure it was a UTI But I tested negative. Better safe than sorry though

I just recently had the same issue. And it ended up being a UTI my dr said since our bodies r changing so fast we may not even notice the other symptoms. Or have any. But you'd have to ask ur dr. Plus I only found out since my dr checks my urine at every appointment
  • I am also having the same issue and not just that, sometimes I would have a slight aching while peeing. I let my dr know and she ordered a urine test for me. It came back normal. She concluded that my uterus is just growing quickly now and putting a lot of pressure on my bladder, also making it difficult to empty completely.

I don't remember feeling this all the way thru my last pregnancy so I'm looking forward to when y belly starts growing more outward and putting less pressure on my bladder!

  • I recently looked at a picture of how your body is currently set up around this time and its like.. Abdomen = Colon 40% + Uterus 50% and Bladder 10%. The bladder looked like a pancake. So as someone who is also currently experiencing this, I think it has something to do with your pancake bladder.
