November 2015 Moms

I just sorted through my clothes...

I've always been weight contious (I have BDD) and am finally pregnant, but at a heavier weight than I had hoped to be starting out. I have been pushing those thoughts to the side and trying not to let it interfere with my excitement! After procrastinating about doing so for quite some time, I sorted through my clothes and my entire wardrobe currently fits in one laundry basket. I'll get past it but now that I'm starting to see physical changes and already felt big to start with, and throwing out clothes that at one point I thought were big but are now looking pretty tiny! I'm feeling a little anxious tonight...

Re: I just sorted through my clothes...

  • Don't fret too much on this. Pregnancy does weird things to our body so clothes fit odd for a while anyway. Don't throw the old clothes out, just store them for later. It may take a while but it's not impossible to fit into them again.

  • I can completely sympathize with you. I also have BDD and started this pregnancy at a heavier weight than I feel comfortable (although a completely healthy weight).
Don't throw your clothes out. Our bodies are changing so much, but will go back! I went out and bought a few items that fit me and made me feel good.
It's hard to watch all of the changes, but just remember that your body is doing exactly what it needs to do for the baby. I started looking into ways to get in shape with he baby after he or she is born... Mommy and me yoga, running stroller, etc. it has helped me a lot to shift the focus away from fixating on my growing belly, butt, and boobs!! Feel free to PM me if you ever want to talk.

I deal with body dysmorphia as well. It is hard. Some things that have helped me are not keeping scales in the house and acknowledging that my body is changing Temporarily. It will go back to normal.

Being a second time mom it's easier for me to have more perspective about that than those who haven't been there yet.

Edit: Don't throw your clothes away. You will probably fit back into them after the baby is born. Just box them up for now.
