Gift ideas - please help!

DH and I moved into our new home one year ago. Our next door neighbors have been very sweet and came over to introduce themselves, always say hi, and even came for DD's 1st bday in March and brought her a gift (three outfits). We were invited to a house party next weekend for their eldest daughter who is graduating from college and going to a local med school. The mother told us that the daughter requested no gifts but I just don't feel comfortable showing up empty handed and I also feel like saying "no gifts" is just a polite thing to say. I have no idea what to bring. I was thinking maybe a hostess gift like wine and then something for the daughter but what??? I don't really know her at all. Also, both of her parents are doctors and I want to give something fitting. Please help with any ideas/suggestions!!

    I agree with pp, food always wins! Chocolates, or even a semi-fancy dessert that can be shared at the party.

    I like the food ideas PP mentioned, but if you are looking for gift ideas specifically for the grad maybe just a card with a gift certificate to whatever coffee shop is on the campus she will be going to. Or maybe a popular restraunt near campus.

    I would do the hostess gift of a wine or fruit and then a grad gift of card and gift card to like Barnes and noble or a coffee shop.

    Remember she's graduating from college, not high school, a bottle of wine for the grad would probably be just fine. Other than that all the other suggestions sound great! Can't ever go wrong with booze or chocolate!

    I agree with the above senders wine and chocolates. I'm not sure where you live, but an incredible edible is always beautiful or even a small check for the graduate!

    You can't go wrong with a bottle of wine for the hostess and a coffee gift card for the grad. If she's going on to med school she will need the coffee for late night study sessions.
