potty training....

SUCKS!!! My 2 1/2 year old is unwilling to do it, this is the first day hahaha but I just am so impatient about this and I guess I shouldn't be. The thing that makes me the most mad is she thinks it is funny to now pee on the floor. Also, she loved sitting on the potty before this and now cries every time I take her in the bathroom to use it..waaahhhh if you have any tips at all about potty training that would be GREAT!

Re: potty training....

  • Don't push her. She will go when she goes. My son took for ever to potty train because we pushed him to much to early. He was pee trained by the time he was 2 and a half but wasnt pooping in th toilet until he was almost 4. Just take your time. We also didn't use pull ups, we went straight to underwear which did help get the peeing down. He only had maybe 2 accidents and just asked for a diapier when he had to poop.

Just keep calm. It will happen at some point.

that is what we are doing is underwear, but she just almost I want to say doesn't care lol but we will use pull ups at night time even though the book suggests otherwise! I guess I just need to be more patient.

We started my 2.5 yo and he was doing well. Was. Between the baby coming and potty training, he's been regressing in his sleep schedule. And after two weeks of solid gains, he said one day "I don't sit on the potty, I'm a baby." So we're letting him ask to use the potty if he wants and focusing on getting his sleep back to normal. Sorry I can't help but I can commiserate. We're keeping him in diapers until after he has adjusted to the new baby.
  • We're going to wait until the new baby gets here, since I've heard toddlers will often regress when a younger siblig is born. Plus DS just turned 2 in March, so he's not quite 2.5 yet. We have gotten a handful if potty books for him to read and we will put him on the potty if he asks, but it's mostly just prep for when he seems a bit more ready.

DH just say a 2 year old in emerge who was "completely potty trained for a weekend" then just refused to pee or poop. She went almost 2 full days holding it in. They thought maybe she had an infection, but alas, she did not. She just didn't like not having a diaper. As soon as they put one on her, away she went. The parents were a little disappointed, but completely understood that she just wasn't ready yet.

Don't push, take her cues. She won't be in diapers forever!

  • Let her be naked and run around the house for a few days. 30mins after a drink set her on the potty. It's what's really helped with my son. Hope it helps
  • Sticker chart. Positive rewards. Don't go back and forth with letting her wear diapers. She will learn that all she has to do is dirty her panty and you will give in.

To bad you can't drink during this time. Lol
  • I would hold off until after LO comes. She most likely will regress once the baby is here.
  • I would think that the timing probably isn't the greatest? With LO about to come into picture..sorry not much help here.. My daughter was super easy and pretty much self trained at 2 and never looked backed..good luck!
  • For my daughter we're trying food as a reward-we tried putting her straight in underwear but she just didn't care if the got wet and she started running out of pants pretty quick so we went to pull ups and started with if she went to the potty she got a piece of candy which was a treat because we limit her candy intake. Now she's 3.5 so it's kinda ridiculous that she still isn't fully potty trained but we're finally almost done but I'm worried she'll regress once her little brother is here so it might make for a long summer! Good luck!
  • Look up the potty boot camp method. It's supposed to take 3 days, but our daughter did it in 2. She has been trained ever since, she was 2 years and 2 months when we did it, and that was a little over a year ago. It was super easy and stress free.
  • Personal opinion but I say chill out and try again in a few months when she shows more of an interest. I took the lazy parent method and waited until ds basically potty trained himseld.
