Flu & Pregnancy

Hi ladies!

16 and a half weeks and I've been hit with a terrible case of flu. I feel absolutely awful, I work full time.

My whole head hurts, from my headache to my continuous running nose and lots of sneezing to my sore throat flowing through to my ears.

I know there isn't much I can do being pregnant but bed rest isn't an option either given I work full time (I'm in the office by 6AM most mornings).

What do I do, I feel a bit rundown - but I also want to make sure bubs is all good. Do I go see the doctor, do I just stick it out?

Thank you :)

Re: Flu & Pregnancy

  • If you really think it's the flu get to your doctor.

  • If it's the flu you should 100% be in bed, please do not go to work. It sounds like it may be a bad cold, in which case you still need to take good care of yourself, rest and fluids. Hope you feel better soon.
  • I would see the Dr in case there are meds that could help personally. No need to suffer unnecessarily. If you are too sick to function you should not be at works making the office a germ fest and getting coworkers sick.
  • Flu is dangerous for pregnant women. 100% go see your doctor

It's probably not influenza. Flu season has mostly run its course. If you are having high fever, call your doctor. Otherwise, there are lots of cold viruses going around still, at least in my area. I just got over one.
  • Thanks ladies. I've been up since 1:30 this morning with a terrible cough and still struggling with this runny nose.

I don't think il be going into work so I can attempt to get a bit better.

I'll go to the doctor to get it checked out. I felt A bit ill waking up but within a few hours at work I've emptied a box of tissues.

    I appreciate the advice!
  • I agree that if it's the flu you need to see a doctor. I had a diagnosed case of the flu at 9 weeks with my DD. It was miserable but Tamiflu and 2 bags of IV fluids saved the day and I felt significantly better within 3 days instead of the standard 2 weeks the flu can take to run it's course.
