I've been having trouble getting comfortable the past few nights. I used to be stomach/side sleeper, and up until this week stomach sleeping was still working for me. But at 16+2 its starting to not be anymore, so I'm sticking with both my sides. I do sleep with a long body pillow between my knees, but I do that not pregnant at well.
Exactly, I am a stomach/side sleeper as well. The last 2 weeks I have been trying to fall asleep either on my back or side, but I end up waking up on my stomach, which doesn't feel nice, so much pressure. Lol the struggles!
Are you sleeping with a body or pregnancy pillow? I've found that sleeping with the body pillow helps me stick to my side a bit more, because I hug it and have it between my knees. I started moving away from being a stomach sleeper only a few years ago and sleeping with the body pillow that way helped me transition to my side as well. At least that's what I think helped. lol
I'm a total stomach sleeper and it has been very difficult. I have a pregnancy pillow that helped last time that I just got out to be washed. I still use extra pillows as well.
I am only 11w 5d but have been tossing and turning already. I am usually a tummy sleeper but it is no longer comfortable, so I am on my side and sleeping with a regular pillow in between my legs. It has already help tremendously, I'm only shift sides once a night now (or not at all.)
Does anyone know if it's safe to sleep on your back? I read conflicting things online, but my doctor says it's okay, mostly because it's unavoidable and stressing about it wouldn't be helpful. Any thoughts?
I don't have a body pillow or a pregnancy pillow, but I've been trying really hard to stay on my side while I sleep. I normally have trouble sleeping, so it's nothing new, but it's definitely been more difficult lately.

At this time it's really not a problem. It becomes a problem in the third trimester, but it'll also be very uncomfortable to sleep that way in your third trimester anyway.

My understanding is that for now, you are probably ok on your back. Its when your belly gets much bigger and laying flat on your back with that weight pressing on things isn't good. But I've also heard it will be uncomfortable as well, so I doubt you would last in that position very long.
I wake up on my back occasionally, but if you are a chronic back sleeper, I would try to start getting away from that now before getting farther along in pregnancy.
I toss and turn all night. I try to sleep on my back but sometimes I take a pillow and put it on my side and just roll over on it a little so I'm not fully on my side or back. Seems to help a bit

Everything I've read states it will be too uncomfortable to sleep a certain way and you'll move on your own long before it hurts the baby.
My first pregnancy I had horrible hip pain from the beginning and it lasted the entire pregnancy. I tossed and turned all night every night.
This time around I've had no pain at all!
The difference is that I've been seeing a chiropractor! Best decision I've made in a long time. As soon as I got my BFP I went for an assessment and adjustment. My hips were incredibly messed up. He adjusts them every few weeks and it has been like magic.
I encourage anyone having issues to go get checked out! This pregnancy has been a dream compared to my last so far.
It's because the bump presses on your inferior vena cava and restricts your blood flow. I'm a back sleeper, so I had a fairly in-depth conversation with my doctor. He says the bigger thing with women lying on their backs is for something like watching tv or resting with your feet up and lying flat on your back, or when trying to exercise flat on your back. When you sleep, you're usually not actually fully flat on your back and most people shift around so much anyway. You can also sleep with a pillow under your right hip to relieve pressure from the IVC if you're worried. We still have a few weeks before the bump pressure really becomes a problem though.
In answer to OP's question, yes, 16 weeks and definitely trouble sleeping/getting comfortable! I've been trying to train myself to sleep more on my left side anyway, and it's definitely hard to get comfy. My birthday is next week and I think I'm getting a snoogli, so hopefully that will help!
I have a body pillow, but that only seems to help for the first bit of the night. Then I switch to a regular pillow between my legs, then I switch to wrenching one leg completely up and bent....what I'm trying to say...is NO RELIEF and it only gets harder.
I've been waking up with horrible hip pain after sleeping on my sides. Will the body pillow help with this at all?? or maybe I need to go to a chiropractor like @madbloom suggested!!!
I've been having trouble sleeping the last two or three weeks. I have back, neck and hip pain that makes it hard to get comfortable. I'm also a night shift RN so that doesn't help. The last 5 nights I've been sleeping on a half inflated air matress with my preggo pillow and 4 regular pillows and it has been a friggin dream. It's a bitch to get out of in the morning but this is the best sleep I've had all year.
Uncomfortable? Very much so. Since very early, I realized that I can only sleep comfortably on a super soft bed. Too bad that I don't have a soft bed....so now I have all kinds of blankets under me. I am that prego princess on a pea...
I was having trouble and around 14 weeks got a pregnancy pillow. BEST decision ever! I have slept amazing every night since and have even taken it with me to the couch for those mid-afternoon weekend naps. I got a bump nest pillow and highly recommend it!
Been having problems sleeping since about 12 wks and the past two nights I've been waking up every hour or so because I was so uncomfortable and had to adjust. It doesn't help that I get heat flashes at night if the apartment isn't cool. My fiance is going to get me a pregnancy pillow and so far after tons of research for something fairly cheap and good material and such I love this one after reading its reviews and seeing it seems to be the best bet. So, when her next check comes in I'm going to get it.

Me too. I'm 15 weeks and barely have a bump, but I've been noticing that it's becoming a little uncomfortable to stomach sleep. I had totally forgotten about that little pregnancy annoyance.
I just got a Snoogle and I love it! It's shaped like a sort of curly C and goes between your knees/legs and under your head/around your shoulder. It's nipped the hip pain i was starting to have in the bud. The one thing I gave to get used to is that the head part is firmer than I am used to.

From the moment I held you in my arms, I knew it was meant to be.

I adore her smile,
I cherish her hugs,
I admire her heart.
But most of all,
I love that she is my daughter.
