Sunburn that came a little too easy

we went out on the lake today with the family for about 5 hours and I put on a 30spf sunscreen.... Started getting red shoulders put on a little more got home and my whole body is bright red and I am freezing to death. Feels like all the heat is leaving my body through my bright red skin..... Sometimes being pregnant sucks I don't burn that easy normally

Re: Sunburn that came a little too easy

  • It's a joy. I highly recommend the Ocean Potion Aloe Lotion. It still feels cooling, but isn't sticky like aloe vera.

  • Oh man next time 100 is going on, and thick
  • I went to Mexico this week and usually tan pretty well! This trip I got so burnt and even welped up in some places. I read its the changes in blood flow and our hormones! You are more susceptible to burn easily! I wore 50 SPF everyday and it still happened.
  • I've been wearing SPF 60 and a big floppy hat! I got mild sun stroke on Wednesday so been very careful to avoid the sun and stay in the shade as much as possible!! My face still feels crispy tho.
  • I would put lavender oil in some scent free lotion and then apply it on the burn. It does wonders for cooling burns, from the sun or otherwise. I've used to pre pregnancy and I feel comfortable using it still. You may want to do your own research though before using it :)

Ugh, I wore SPF 15 today and then reapplied with SPF 30, and while I got a tad pink, I feel like this baby is totally zapping away my ability to tan! I usually tan very easily, and I feel like I'm just getting no color, despite spending hours in the sun (much of that time in the pool so I don't get too hot). Obviously, I'm blessed to be pregnant, but the not tanning thing is really annoying. I feel like being more tan would make me feel better about my changing body, and even that's not happening for me!

I feel the same about being tan and hoping to feel a little better about myself. I'm Italian so I usually have a little color to me, and today I laid out by the pool and got a little red. Usually if that happens I'm tan the next day, so we'll see how I look tomorrow. But right now I look like a somewhat tan lobster. I've had skin pigmentation changes on my forehead (due to being pregnant I assume?) so I made sure to wear a hat all day, I'm just glad my face isn't toasty. All these body changes and I can't even get away with some relaxing tanning. Sheesh.
  • I'm a pale blonde so I survive the summers in SPF 70. After you've had sun poisoning a time out two you give up on trying to tan.

For those of you still wanting to tan you should check with your doctor about various fake bakes that you could use. It would give you the glow you're looking for without the burn.

  • I may have to go to a walkin clinic I woke up and my legs are so red they almost look purple and it hurts worst than it did last night oh man I never have burned like this my entire life this is no fun
  • I noticed the same thing with me! I know it's the beginning of summer and my skin hasn't seen this much sunlight in a long time so I'm more capable of burning but these past 2 weekends I've gone walking and I'm mostly in the shade as weird as it is but I got a lot of sunburn on my chest/shoulders like as if I was gardening outside all day!
  • My husband and I are both fair skinned and burn easily. Last year on vacation, we both got sunburns so bad we blistered even though we used lots of sunscreen. A surf shop owner recommended this spray that has changed my life. It is called Solar Recover. It is mix of essential oils and takes the heat right out of the burn and helped us recover faster with less peeling. You can buy it on Amazon. It is a life-saver if you are prone to burning.

Thank you! Yes! And please consider using it even after you have the baby, tanning is not healthy for you.
  • I think the key is stay in a sun no more then hour then go to the shade or under the umbrella . We in Miami now and I'm getting the best tan .im always wearing hat and try to go to the water every 15 min .

Ooh be careful. Have you had a cool shower as the skin continues to burn for a while :-( I'm half Italian and never really burn... Until I'm pregnant, then I swear I can be in the sun for 5 minutes and go red! If your legs are actually purple and sore, I would go and get checked out!

(Or you can come and live in the UK... we only have to worry about the sun for one maybe two days every summer :D )

Unfortunately, once you're burned that bad there's not much you can do. I'd call your doctor or the nurse line and ask if the aloe vera gel with lidocaine is ok to use while pregnant. Cool baths and drinking tons of fluid help it go away more quickly. I've been barney colored one time and it really sucks. Sorry you've got to deal with this.

  • I actually just saw a news special on this very topic... Pregnancy hormones actually make our skin more prone to sunburn. Sunscreen might not be enough - try staying in the shade. 10-15 minutes of sun exposure at a time with double that time in the shade is okay - of course reapply sunscreen every 2 hours, no matter what the packaging says.
  • I am ghost white and cannot go anywhere outside in the sun without at least spf 50. Did yard work today and cleaned the pool. Was out for about 4 hours and still managed to get little sunburn blotches where I couldn't reach real well with the sunblock. Next time I will bathe in it before going out into the sun.

I went out this weekend for 3.5 hours. Applied SPF 50 three times and have the worst burn of my life! Before baby i would apply oil with SPF 5 and never burn! Its terrible and I just laid in bed only getting up to apply aloe for two days and I still look like a splotchy lobster! I read that once you get past SPF 50 its all just fluff and that sunscreen can't work any better than that. I did research and found the best kinds out there for baby and me to hopefully prevent this from happening again!!

Just a note...remember to buy new sunscreen this year.  It does go bad and becomes less effective so make sure you have a new bottle to ensure the best protection. :)
