My food weakness....

I am currently 16 weeks pregnant with a healthy little boy , but I have had a horrible time giving up some things they say you should avoid during pregnancy such as blue cheese , now I am not eating this with every meal every day but I might be having it once a week along with iced tea ( no sugar) but probably drinking over my caffeine limit Per day . Any other mommies to be having a hard time giving there favorite food up???

Re: My food weakness....

  • So far drinks are the only thing that doesn't make me sick so I have been drinking too many calories and probably not eating enough. I do love my caffeine.

  • I drink iced tea too. And I won't give up blue cheese. Everything in moderation is my motto!
  • If the blue cheese is pasteurized it is fine. If you are in the US you have probably never had unpasteurized cheese. Unless you are drinking a gallon of tea daily you are probably fine.

I was actually surprised how many cheeses I found that were not pasturised, but they are not everyday cheeses. I found a lot at cheese shops or supermarkets with a large specialty cheese areas. If you are at a standard supermarket all the cheese is probably pasturized. Some restraunts served it also, but not your standard chains (servers will check for you if asked).
I was at trader Joe's a few weeks ago and the blue cheese sample was actually not pasturised. I saw after I ate it, oops.
    I LOVE cheese!!!!

Oh and I really miss wine especially with my cheese :(

In theory, hot dogs are a no no, but they've always been a favorite of mine. Especially a good old gas station hot dog. I eat them from time to time with no shame.

I get extreme migraines if I don't have some form of caffeine every day, so my OB said to continue as long as I'm not consuming caffeine with every single meal. She said the stress of a migraine on me is worse than the caffeine. Like other have said, everything in moderation is fine.

I was a caffeine fiend pre-pregnancy, which I mentioned at my last appointment.  The NP said that caffeine is totally fine in moderation, and the "rule" to cut it entirely out is an old wives' tale.  She said I'm probably making my headaches worse by cutting back as much as I have (I was trying to limit to one or none at all), and it's perfectly fine to have a couple of small caffeinated beverages a day.
