I love the taste of beer especially in the summer. Do you guys think this is fine to have? It's non-alcoholic but I think when they say that it could still have like up to half a percent alcohol (kinda like decaf coffee). Thoughts?
I did once or twice with my first. You are going to probably get mixed feelings. Some of my friends drank wine and beer later in their pregnancy because their doctor said they could where I never did and my doctor said no.
I've had an odouls a few times with this pregnancy and my last when I'm really craving an ice cold beer. Like you said it's less than half percent alcohol, i just wouldn't drink a 6 pack in a night.
My cousin is a nurse and drank nonalcoholic beer occasionally throughout her pregnancy. She has three kids and is one of the people I know I can take pregnancy advice from. She would never have drank it at all if it was harmful.
I went out for "girls night" and my OB was with us! I was the designated driver of course! I ordered water and she actually recommended I get a non alcoholic beer, saying it was fine.
What I would do is have completely non alcoholic- (0% alcohol) rather than the 1/2 a perfecent. No one could possibly complain about that.... It's non alcoholic! And tastes similar, or the ciders do anyway. Kopperberg non alcoholic cider 0% tastes pretty similar. I only know as I stopped drinking at all for religious reasons about two years ago. No point in taking the judgement and guilt for the sake of 1/2 a percent.

In order to obtain a non-alcoholic classification in the U.S., a beverage must contain less than half of a percent by volume. That could mean .49, or it could mean .01, and I found a source that says O'Doul's is .4 (not sure whether that's accurate or not). I'm guessing that the ciders fall under the same guidelines if they're marketed as a non-alcoholic substitute for an alcoholic beverage. Any way you slice it, given the specifications for non-alcoholic classification, you would need a minimum of 11 non-alcoholic beverages to match the content of a comparable alcoholic beverage (based on the average being around 5 percent).
Am I the only one that thinks 1/2% is pretty insignificant and am a little flabbergasted that people are actually debating this? It's fine! Unless you drink like 10, you aren't going to even have an increase in your blood-alcohol level. Many people and doctors believe that moderate amounts of alcohol are perfectly fine, so don't stress about "non-alcoholic" beer!
A half a percentage of alcohol in a 12 ounce drink is next to nothing and will metabolize in your system before it will make you feel any sort of buzz or anything- hence non-alcoholic. If you just like the taste of beer I would go for it. Enjoy!

Both very true. I would say go for it!
Agreed! It didn't occur to me to ask my midwife or anyone else. Other than alcoholics I assume we are a good majority or people buying this stuff? I think it's totally fine. I'm trying to be smart and logical but not get paranoid or worried about every little thing, I bought this great book about French/European attitudes towards pregnancy and parenting called Bebe Day by Day. Really enjoying it and giving me a different perspective on having s calm healthy and relaxed pregnancy. In Canada it seems to me a culture that really adds to the worries and fears that are easy to feel when pregnant.
Ask your Dr. They know you and your pregnancy more than anyone here. Plus people here will give mixed answers. Example some say yeah its ok other say no. Just like some doctors say yes it's fine and others say no. I would ask yours just to play it safe and I only say that bc of the mixes yes and no you would get here with this subject. Lol

Love this! And I have had a single glass of wine nearly every week with all my babies. They are better than fine! (My 2nd grader reads at the 7th grade level.)
Fetal alcohol syndrome is something that babies of alcoholics get, not a mom who has a glass of wine or a beer once in a while. Besides, lots of babies are a surprise; do you think all those moms magically knew to stop drinking as soon as they conceived? Nope, not even close. My oldest (awesome reader referenced above,) was a complete shock and I drank socially (a few times a week) well into my 7th week before I figured out I was pregnant. Clearly, there were no ill effects.
My mom said her OB recommended a drink with meals on the regular. I'm fine, I'm not an alcoholic, I have no long-term damage.
NOTE: I am not advocating finishing off a 6 pack a week. I am not saying to do whatever you want with no regard for your unborn child. I am only saying that the occasional drink is at your discretion and you shouldn't have to feel guilty about it. #sorrynotsorry
My biological mother was a raging alcohalic and out of 7 children I was the only one that was adopted out of the family (my sisters and brothers were take away then adopted or put into foster care) and I was the only one who had no effects of Fasd. When I was born I was labelled a failure to thrive baby. Long story short I believe a lot of it has to do with how the kids are raised after birth. AND I would still never take the chance of having any alcohol during pregnancy. Big no no for me.

Thats horrible and it is sad how common fetal alcohol syndrome is.
What I find fascinating is that my mother said she intentionally consumed a glass of wine a day during her pregnancy and beer while breastfeeding because that was the recommendation back then. This was back in 1981 mind you.
I went to the store and they had a couple options. I got clausthaler, it's a German NA beer. It tastes very similar to a Heineken to me. Not one of my fave beers and won't drink it often but nice to have something different or when others are drinking every once in awhile.
You're completely fine to have it (don't over worry yourself about whether it's .1 or .5%) I absolutely promise NO harm will be done by drinking it! For crying out loud doctors say a glass of wine occasionally is fine and that has a lot more alcohol than beer! Any NA beer will work.

Beer really does help with your supply while breastfeeding. 1 a day won't hurt.
FWIW, my doctor is fine with 1/2 glass of red wine a few times a week. I'll have that with dinner later in the 2nd tri, like I have done with previous pregnancies.
Re: Can you have odouls non alcoholic beer ?
ETA: be warned, if you toss one back in public when you've got that big belly, you're likely to get a lot of nasty looks and comments.

And now I'm thirsty.
