Re: My baby has reflux

  • @riquelhensom have you tied rice cereal in the formula? I did that with my son and had him on Zantac. He was like a new baby...

  • My son has reflux as well. He is on Zantac and it helped a ton. It was miserable to listen to him scream and cry his head off every time after a feeding. I still have him on regular similac advanced formula. Just keep hanging in there mama!!! my pediatrician says it usually gets better around 3-4 months when the baby's stomach muscles get stronger and keep all their food in their little tummies.
  • My baby girl has really bad reflux and she is on Prevacid. We started it once per day and my pediatrician said it could take up to two weeks to work. It made a small difference but she was still cringing and extremely uncomfortable at her two Month checkup they looked at her grunting and squirming and increased the Prevacid to twice a day! It has been a little over a week since the increase and now I am seeing a significant difference. She is exclusively breast fed and I have sacrificed all dairy and acidic foods. It is so hard to see your baby in so much pain!! Hang in there your not alone!!!
  • My baby has reflux too, apparently very common, especially with preterm babies (she was born at 36 weeks). I actually took her to the pediatric ER because she was in so much pain: arching her back, contorting her body, and wailing after every feeding.I felt terrible and dreaded what I thought should have been a wonderful time of day - feeding. She was prescribed Zantac and is doing great! My ped doesn't like to switch formulas and kept her on Enfamil Gentlease.
My baby's other problem is gas and fussiness which my ped says is normal and she's reassured because my baby is healthy otherwise and gaining weight.

We had our 2-month visit and I asked about lactose intolerance and/or food allergies but my ped reassured me that my baby did not have either.

ANY OTHER MAMAS HERE WHOSE LO IS EXTREMELY GASSY AND FUSSY SO MUCH THAT SHE/HE CRIES? Any tips? Pushing knees up, colic hold, and tummy time are moderately effective.
Also, ANYBODY USING GERBER SOOTHE DROPS YET?

I'm using the Gerber soothe and I think it's definitely helping. My ped gave us a sample to try and it convinced me to buy even though it's super expensive. My LO was screaming at every feeding and now he eats happily. I think it's also improved his sleeping too, though it could our new routine or his getting over a developmental leap

My son has bad reflux too...our ped put him on Ranitidine twice a day. It has helped but he still spits up just not as much! He is BF and formula as I'm not producing enough for him...we were told it could take up to 8 months to grow out of it

My baby boy has reflux as well. He is on similac alimentum and Zantac. It has helped a bit but the pretty pediatrician explained to me that the Zantac takes away some of the burning but it doesn't take away the reflux altogether.

My baby has been on prevacid for a 2 weeks now and I have seen a huge improvement! The Zantac didn't seem to help him. Also, he's been on alimentum about a month now and is a completely different baby! So much happier & less gassy! It's well worth the extra cost!
  • My son is EBF and just started Zantac a week ago. Like a PP, our pediatrician said it would help his discomfort but not cure the reflux itself. I do see improvement but he still seems to have tummy pains and will randomly wake up screaming in pain. I thought it was getting better but the past 2 days he's back to not wanting to nap and not sleeping unless he's being held and in motion. He won't even sleep in his swing! :( Sounds like Prevacid was a win for others of you, would you recommend asking for that?

My daughter has been a "happy spitter" from day one, and I was told not to worry about the spit up, even though it seemed like a lot after each feeding. She is EBF, and the spit up didn't seem to bother her. She also has gained weight really well so plenty is getting through. However, in the last three days, she has started to cry after spitting up and screamed a couple times today. But it's not consistent. Sometimes it didn't bother her at all... Should I look into reflux medication?
  • Your little one sounds just like mine! And we have been on Prevacid twice a day for a little over two weeks and it's like a different baby! She actually smiles at me when she is on the breast when before she would scream. Also she finds great comfort in her pacifier when she does have gas or belly pains! But make sure you ask for Prevacid compound (its a liquid the pharmacy mixes for you) ask your pediatrician about it!!! Good luck!
  • Thank you ever one for commenting my LO is better but still not great having a lot of fussy time though the day my doctor done a ultrasound on his belly and sent me to a GI doctor everything good on ultrasound but the GI doctor told me to start the rice cereal because even with him on the pervacid he was projectiling his spit up I have been doin it for a week now and it seem to help but now he is back to doing it again he is almost 3 month so I'm gonna wait it out to see if it helps but what my GI doctor is concerned about is he gags and chocked on his spit up its not normal spit up its slimy and sometimes not even white like formula he wants to do a upper GI x Ray on him but I don't know if I want to put my baby through that I know he will get better in time thank you guys for helping my
