holy acne batman...

17 weeks along, FTM here and my face, neck, chest, and back all resemble a pepperoni pizza.

Any advice? My normal cleansers and face scrubs apparently can't keep up with this hormone explosion and are failing miserably.

So much for that lovely pregnancy glow I've always heard of. Instead I feel like an awkward (and fat!) teenager again, haha.

Re: holy acne batman...

  • Totally agree with you! I have never had a issue with my completion! In fact my ex-sister in law hatede cause my complexion was soo amazing! Sorry!

  • Never had acne problems until this one (third pregnancy) and my face has exploded into a colorful mess, too. From all the research I've done, there aren't a whole lot of options to treat it. I'd ask your OB what to use, since I know different doctors have different ideas on the subject. Mine told me I could go to a dermatologist if it was really bothering me, which I decided not to do (already seeing three different doctors!). Good luck, and here's Web MD's opinion! https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/acne/acne-during-pregnancy-treatments-causes

I read WebMD as well. They suggest at home microdermabrasion and alpha hydroxy products. I went with the Neutrogena line for everything. In two days my skin has improved. Hopefully this will continue.
  • .I'm having a girl and my face is the same way - when I was preggers with my son, my fave was the clearest it had ever been. I'm hoping it goes away with some summer sun.
  • I can relate. I've always struggled with a bit of acne and used medication from the dermatologist. However, I can't use the medicine during pregnancy so my skin has been pretty yucky. I feel like I go through phases of it being okay and then really bad. In addition to the acne, my skin has been SO DRY. You could try use Tea Tree Oil - I use a TINY bit mixed with water on a cotton ball.

I'm 20 weeks now and it has started to lighten up - I'm hoping it doesn't return!

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I have always struggled with acne, but since being pregnant, I basically look like a teenage boy who doesn't have a clue about hygiene!! It's been terrible. I stopped using salicylic acid years ago, because it actually dries out your skin and makes it worse; also, since it is absorbed through the skin and considered a toxin in high doses, it's not great for the baby. I've recently been using Burt's Bees Orange Cleanser and their Deep Cleansing Cream. I like the Deep Cleansing Cream the best and it's done a good job to knock out the worst of the cystic acne on my chin!

I definitely feel like everyone lied to me about the "pregnancy glow" stuff--I feel disheveled, fat, greasy, etc. etc. Why did I choose this again? :)
  • I've been suffering from acne and dry skin too. It is the worst! I wish I had a magic solution, but I don't. I haven't really found anything that works over the counter. I'm hesitant to go to my dermatologist since I don't want to take medication that I really don't need. I just keep telling myself - it will go away eventually!
  • When I was pregnant with my first son my skin was perfect, soft, my hair was amazing as well ... I'm having a boy again and I have chest acne and face acne, my skin is so dry and my hair is frizzy b
  • My forehead is covered in bumps! I have no idea what's going on. I've never had acne so this is all new to me. It's not pimples just bumps under the skin. People say I have a glow but I have no idea what they're talking about all I see if bumps on my forehead and red blotches on my face!
  • Try silver sulfadaizine!!!! Hasn't been able to conquer the grossness on my neck/ upper back (never had this before... ewww and ouch!) but it's been great for keeping my face down to a degree where I can still cover it up with makeup! It's reduced it to very small breakouts and a dulled, dulled color.

Those sound like white heads(closed comadomes)
  • They don't have a white head on them, just under the skin bumps! It drives me crazy! I see my doctor in 2 weeks in going to ask her what I can use to help get rid of this!

My entire face is covered in acne. Its soooo bad. Tried numerous things I read from women here, but nothing seems to help. Every morning, a new face demon is ready to ruin my mood. Not just tiny ones either, oh no, big giant ones with a huuuuuge white head on them that are painful just sitting there.

My hair is frizzy as all heck as well, and seems more brittle if anything.

I have some advice, and I promise it works! It sounds crazy because the last thing you would guess to do is add more oil to your face, but many acne cleansers dry your skin out and it's your bodies reaction to produce more oil and cause zits. I use an oil cleanser every night, my ratio is 3 parts olive oil, 1 part castor oil, mix it in a container and each night apply a small amount to wet skin, rub all over and then soak a clean washcloth in hot water, ring out and apply to face until it's cooled. Gently rub off any access oil left on skin. It shrinks pores, and gets rid of or expels pimples. It's a dream and most of my family uses it. Each ratio is different for everyone, some may require more castor oil. Witch hazel also works as a toner and can be used in the morning. Hope this helps ladies!

I was at the Dr yesterday and they told me specifically not to use tea tree oil. Although it's herbal it's not safe for baby. I don't know how much would be considered harmful up just thought I would throw it out there.
I am in this battle with acne myself. My face isn't to bad but my shoulders, down my arms back and chest are insane. I feel uncomfortable in most shirts as you can see it and won't dare a tank without something as a cover, which is going to get hard real fast as it's getting hot. Going to try the olive oil thing! I know before my wedding my makeup artist gave me what felt like a fairly oily cream for my face to clear it up and said that the reason for the breakout was dry skin and my body over compensating in the oil producing. I was zit free by my wedding. It feels weird to use something oily on acne and I still have a hard time doing it but I'm going to give it a shot. It can't get much worse!

You need to be careful on EVERYTHING you buy these days.. Just cause it's on the shelf doesn't mean it's safe(not just while pregnant, anytime). I use melaleuca(tea tree) oil every single day. I use dōTERRA and that's the only brand of essential oils I trust. There is no harm to baby from them, though. ****Just go with your research and what you feel is best for your body. Nobody can make you do one thing or another, and if you feel it's ok, go with it!**** :)
  • I go see a facialist at a med spa every month. Definitely helps. My first trimester my skin was horrible. I'm 20W3D now and my skin is super clear. I use Image products on my face and an acne cream at night by NeoStrata.
  • IUse Equate(The Off Brand) Of The Pink Grapefruit Body Wash On My Body And Face. Also Cutting Back On My Sugars. I Still Get A Couple Breakouts But They Normally Go Away Quicker Now :) That And Making Sure I'm100% Completely Dry Before Putting On My clothes
  • I Also Just Rock It Anyway. I've Always Had Really Bad Bacne And If Someone WantsTo Say Something To Me About How GrossIt Is. Then Screw Them And Put Them In Their Place. You're Your Biggest Critic And You Notice Everything AboutYou. I Don'tCover It Up Either BecauseI Find The Sun Helps Dry ThemUp As Well
